It may have taken most of the weekend, but here it is!! When I say most of the weekend, there was a lot of farting around time. HOWEVER, there is over 5 hours of fileing and hand sanding the casting to smooth perfection! When I was done sanding, polishing would have been a piece of cake, as I started at 200, went to 400, then 680 grit, all wet sanded. Then baked in the oven for 2 hours on 250 degrees to kiln dry it. Etching primered it, 3 coats of sport-utility black, 3 coats acrylic clear, dryed over night before installation. In 2-3 weeks, after the california sun gets done baking the finish, I will wet sand one more time, and final clear it. While I was at it, put short front signals on (from the rear), installed new bar end mirrors, and installed new rear tail lights! Rerouted some wriring under the seat area, and tightened the harware up that the factory seamed to have missed everywhere under the seat. Moved the harness around too, as it was starting to chaff on the corner of the battery terminal. I also de-california-nated the emissions (like anyone even noticed!!) BIG thanks to Odie for the ideas, and Daves for the color opinion, and everyone's support with all problems and questions!! Bruce |

Looks real nice. How bright are the rear turn signals? I like the look but I don't want anything that isn't as bright as the stock ones. |

I would say the lights are 95% as bright, but have a greater viewable angle from side and rear then the factory did, so I would say they are at least as visable over all. I plan on getting the LED tail/turn signal when the money tree blooms, so they are a temporary installation honestly. I always look over my shoulder anyway, like we all do, right? |

Rr, looks good man. I'm thinking about painting mine red to add a little color in the rear. Good job! |

Odie I thought red to but I don't know yet considering the back of my Gunfighter seat is upholstered red. |

True, might be a little too much red. I was also thinking about 12S frame gray. I also considering polishing the tail section and the side rails. I have a polisher and polished most things on my Wideglide.....decisions, decisions..... |

I got the tails at a local MC shop. Was going to get somesmaller fronts, but visibility is a concern there. Like i said, the rears are a temporary thing, till I can harvest that money tree and pick up one of the LED tails from American Sport Bike. Thanks Odie, compliments from the originator are always appreciated. Thanks again Bruce |

As soon as you have a few cars run up on the back of you because they don't see your turn signals during the day you will find the money for a tail light with integrated turnsignals. Best money I ever spent on my bike! I did the same type of changes on my 2002 M2 and was almost hit three times. I found myself taping the rear brake alot so people would know I was going to be slowing down to make a turn. |

Very nice piece of tail:-) I am not sure about the visibility of the turn signals though. Here is a tip: I baked mine in a 220 degree oven to harden the paint. Curiously I discovered that when I baked it for six hours or so, the paint, which I had sanded to a smooth dull finish with 220 sandpaper, changed from matte to gloss! |
