Saw the new Buell accessories catalogue today and they are selling some new 208 Dunlops (for 05 models).

I'll post the part numbers tomorrow.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if these are the lighter 208's Eric Buell said were being developed????

Still, I love my Pirelli's : )

I think it was in motorcycle news that I saw that the 208's are being fitted on the 2005's due to wear issues with the 207's. None of can relate right? It also said that Eric wasn't happy about the change because the 208's are heavier.

Just put the 208's on my X1 and like them. Still in the scrub-in stage so no real comparo to the 207's yet.

The reason I stayed with the Dunlops is I get good mileage out of them but more importantly because I know how they handle on my X1 in the real world and am very confident in tight situations with them.

To me, that is more important than how they work on the track under ideal conditions.

Just like Outrider, I also put a 208ZR on my rear yesterday. Only have about 40 miles on it but like what I feel so far without being too aggressive yet. It turns much easier at lower speeds for sure.

All new tires seem to turn easier due to the higher center from not being worn down yet.

I REALLY notice it when I get new rubber on the Electra-Hog.

That and being somewhat slick for a while.

D220's rock, on a 'tuber anyway. I had a set put on the M2 at 6500 miles, and they still looked new at 10500 miles when a cager wiped out that bike.

What I really liked was the multi-compound design, as I was told, that makes up the riding area of the tire. When warmed up, you could feel how soft the outer tread area was compared to the center line. It was a GREAT tire for long rides to twisty roads, as it could hold its own very well at the limit.

When these 207's wear out, I am talking the warranty company into putting 220's on the 12S, yes i said warranty company. It is always amazing how screws find their way into your tires right at the wear bars, aint it??

My 2 cents

Bruce

The '05's come with D208's (I've seen them at the dealer). D208's are certainly NOT a light tire. They are decent, but in my experience, the best tire I've used (not yet on my 12R) is the Pirelli Diablo Corsa. I weighed a pair of Diablos and they were TWO POUNDS LIGHTER than the D208's! Even the standard Diablo is way better than the D208, IMHO.

When the rear D207 goes on my '04, the Diablo Corsas go on.

I don't care TOO much about the weight as I will trade it for a little longer wear time. A friend has a 208 on his 12 with over 1000 miles and show no wear whatsoever and stick real well. My stock 207's started wearing almost right away.....

I talked to Erik about the tires when he was in the hospitality suite at Laguna Seca and one of things I brought up was tires. I mentioned that I think the 207's are part of the problem that has led to bad reviews in some magazines (that and suspension settings). He said the problem with going to Dunlop 208's is that they are very heavy. He also mentioned Dunlop developing a lighter version and he seemed to hint that they might be used on Buell in the future.

The question is are these the light version. Isn't the model number different than the standard 208's that some of the Japanese bikes are running? Perhaps these are the light version just like the 207's are lighter than the 207's everyone else uses?

If the 208's on the '05 bikes are lighter than the standard ones, there should be a "code" after the "D208" indicating that the tire is bike specific.

First full day on the new 208's and they handle like a dream. Did a lot of blind twisties with the usual gravel surprises and they corrected easily mid turn and when I was too late to make the correction, they regained traction immediately after clearing the gravel patch.

Bottom line is they probably aren't any different than any other tire. I just have confidence in them from my experience with two sets of 207's on the X1.

About the only thing I know for sure it that I waited too long and should have replaced my tires sooner. I have been sliding both ends diving in and driving out of the turns like I used to do on my dirt bikes, but that is just plain wrong on a street bike.

That was the first clue I needed tires. The second was watching the rear wheel bounce all over the place when I did a dyno run on Thursday (Hmmm...wonder if the new tires will yield better hp and torque numbers) and the last clue was reading about all the recent accidents on the BWB. At that point I figured waiting til spring for a new set was penny wise and pound foolish.

Glad I bought new tires, today's ride was picture perfect and am looking forward to many more before the snow starts falling.

Bought the Diablos because of the good reviews, as mentioned here, and Metro Motorsports had a sale! I got the front and 2 rears for $274.42! I can't wait to try them out!
