I hate when manufacturers put fine thread bolts in aluminum. The threads finally pulled out of my oil drain hole in the swing arm. The plug is 1/2 inch fine thread. My solution is one taught to me many years ago by a guy who owned a M/C shop for many years. I re-tapped the hole with 1/4 inch pipe thread and inserted a pipe plug with paste type thread sealant. I also drilled a hole in the plug to safety wire it just for my own peace of mind. No drilling was necessary and this repair will last forever because the thread pitch is more course and more importantly is tapered. Just keep it in mind if you run into a stripped drain hole. It's a cheap and easy fix and it's actually better than new.

That is a neat tip. This should live in the knowledge vault.
