Hey folk, I'm in the market for a Buell. My problem I can't decide which I like better the 2001 X1 lightning or the 2003 XB9S I can afford. Both have similar mileage and prices. Both are gorgeous bikes but I think I fit the X1 a little better. Any opinions? | ||

better snap up the tuber..... you can get an XB anytime. i am having a bunch of fun on my xb12, but am looking for an M2 to make a hotrod out of. i have a fast sportster that needs some sticky 17 inch rubber, a 4.5 gallon steel tank, and a rubber mount frame. i think a chain drive 1458cc cyclone would be a hoot. | ||

The XB will outhandle the X1 hands down. The X1 has more power. The XB is more reliable and better looking (IMO). | ||

X1's Rule and were made for Wisconsin Roads! You can pack 'em for a long tour or put your Sig "O" on the back for a day and she doesn't have to be built like "Twiggy." | ||

Bill I'd say for riding solo there the same.But who would buy a BUELL for riding around there honey for any lengthly time anyways??Isn't that why you bought the Dyna?? | ||

No, that is why I bought the two up Pegasus saddle for the X1. The funny part is, she doesn't know which one she likes better. Although she did say the two up version is a little more secure. Think about it.  | ||

Okay now that I've ridden both I think I'm getting the X1. My reasoning is as follows: I'm 42 and I know I don't heal as fast as I did at 26 so I'm probably not gonna spend much if any time at the bikes limit. I already get my main speed fix racing dirt stock cars. I am not sure how comfy the XB would be for my 6'2" 210lb self on long trips hither and yon. It's black. | ||

Miles is a good answer concerning ergo's, etc. Check my profile for upgrades I did for both performance and longevity but not peak HP. Note that some of the upgrades I did are stock items on the 2001 model. Suggest Metal rockerbox gaskets first. Is that classic ounce of prevention. After that, it is up to you concerning performance and ergo's and that is where the miles will help you fine tune the bike to your needs. Other than the aftermarket intake, exhaust, DFO and Race ECM, all I did was put slightly higher and wider bars on mine (old style Triumph bars), which is just a personal preference that I find increases my comfort level as well as provide for a number of different riding positions and styles. | ||

Crash...If you get the new bike in time, why don't you head down for the Slimey Crud Run on October 3rd. Lot's of Bueller's there to meet and get information from. M2Me, John Koehler, may be coming down from your area and perhaps a few others that you can tag along with. The Slimey Crud meets in Pine Bluff, WI and later in Leland, WI. The ride in between is on your own or with whomever you hook up with. You can find more information by either searching this board or surfing the WWW for Slimey Crud. | ||

Hey Outrider, You read my mind, I saw the crud run last night and was thinking it would be a good time. I'm still kinda waffling back and forth on which bike I would prefer. They also have a ST3 for about the same price. I don't know if that one is stock also or not. It's hard having choices. | ||

To be honest with you, there probably isn't a bad choice to be made. Just depends what you plan on doing with the bike. I just like the X1 as to me it is a great cross bike. For me it does a lot of things very well. Plus, I can take the Sig "O" or go solo and live out of the tank'n'tail bag for weeks as long as I can find a laundromat. | ||
