Hi all,

I recently bought a 2009 XB12Ss that came with a EBR Race ECM and K&N filter. The PO said that he thought the exhaust pipe had been modded (similar to a Drummer, but not a Drummer). Here are a couple of pics of the exhaust. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/91r6perjhbfnrnq/AABimwv 2rZqpqodpwdso6zL4a?dl=0

I over exposed one so that you can see the weld lines where the PO was saying it had been cut into and modded. My guess is that it is a homemade mod, but I could be wrong.

I contacted EBR and gave them the sticker number on the ECM and they informed me that it is mapped for a Jardine RT-1. The issue, of course, is that the exhaust is NOT a Jardine! I’m new to this whole exhaust mapping thing, so I didn’t even realize that different pipes would have different mappings (duh…I know). The bike seems to run fine, but I know that an incorrect mapping can harm the engine, especially if it is too lean.

So, my question is – what should I do now? Some options would be to:

a. Leave well enough alone since it seems to be running fine
b. Take it to a shop and have it dyno tested and possibly remapped (although I’m not sure how they could do that since I don’t know if the Race ECM can be remapped outside the factory).
c. Buy a Jardine RT-1 to replace the exhaust pipe so that it matches the ECM.
d. Buy a different exhaust pipe and send my ECM to EBR for a remap to match it to that exhaust.
e. Something else?

Any thoughts you have would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Option "A" would be my choice. No the map on the ECM will not be perfect, but it will be better than the stock map, and close enough.

Options B through D just add significant cost with negligible gain.

Ride it an enjoy it : )

Thanks, Froggy! That helps. Just wasn't sure how "off" the mapping can be before I need to worry about it. Sounds like, as long as the bike seems to be running fine...good to go.
