Gonna get flamed, but got to ask anyway..........

My fuel pump, in my opinion and friends as well, seems to be AWEFULL loud! To give you an idea, you can hear it over the engine while the bike is running most of the time!! Then other times, it will not make more then a little zzzzzzzzzzz

Most of the time however, it SEAMS horendously loud, and should I be concerned???

I know its a wierd one guys, but help a brother out. what do yours sound like, as I do not believe this is normal, and everytime I go to the dealer, it naturally wont do it!!

Thanks in advance

Bruce

Full, empty, it does not matter at all. Like I said, most of the time it is loud, very rarely it remains "normal" sounding.

I hear a high pitched "whining" noise when the bike is running most of the time. Didn't used to hear it... started about 500 miles ago (2800 mi total). No performance difference... just that noise.

Im talking about a growling-whizz noise when you flip the kill switch on prior to starting it. Then the noise continues afterstart up, and is audible most of the time.

PLease guys, open to opinions. Want to know if I should get the dealer actually involved or not.

So, experts, would you say loud is normal then?

Mine did that. Dealer replaced under warranty (approx. 1500 miles). New one did it too. Not all the time, but often enough. Dealer called Buell, they said it's normal. I don't like it though. Still does it some at 3500 miles.

When others question what that noise is, I tell them it's the nuclear accelerator spooling up!

Mine is loud when I first start it up but seems to be OK after riding for a while. I noticed this after I installed the Race ECM.

I can hear mine over the race kit muffler on cold mornings. Minimalist design makes it so you can hear everything. Plus it's a high volume pump. Since your so worried about what your friends say about the fuel pump, what do they say about your After Cooler (fan) when you turn off the bike?

Mine has done that since the day I bought it but its nothing to be concerned about. I noticed that it's significantly louder when it's cold especially right as you flip on the key before you start it. Is that what you're talking about?

Yep. And also while the bike is running until it gets warmed up.

You know, after 10,000 mi. it just becomes part of the bike. I don't notice it anymore. It seems to have quieted down with the miles too.

I didn't know this but thought it was interesting ... the new '05 lineup uses a different (new) fuel pump according to my dealer. It's not one of those things they advertise I guess but I saw the sheet Buell sent the dealer and that's what it said. Has anyone else heard the new "sx" charge up? It is quieter but I would doubt it works any better.

Quick note on the '05 fuel pump- it's not in all of the '05 models. It's a running change that's supposed to start with the September production. Early '05s still have the 'old' fuel pump. I'm still waiting to see an XB built in September so I can hear the difference.
