I have USAA insurance for both of my bikes. USAA doesn't offer medical coverage for motorcycles and I was wondering if anyone has an insurance company that does that you would recommend. I know there are some companies out there that offer these coverages but the ones I have talked to quote outrageous rates. I only pay $40 a month for my XB9R and an increase for medical would be worth it but not at the amount I am being quoted. Thanks in advance (Message edited by along4theride on September 19, 2004) |

A4TR...DO you have medical through your employer? If so they should pick up where your insurance stops depending on policy. That is what I did because I have great medical through United Health Care, so no extra on my bike insurance |

Along, I've got USAA and I have the medical. I have a 12R and I pay $77 a month. That's $13 more than I would pay if I didn't have medical. Yea, mine's a little high, but I'm hoping it drops here in Dec. It's a new bike and I've got full coverage, low deductable, that's another reason mine's so high. |

SouthernMarine- You might want to make sure about the medical with USAA, I know I'll be asking again. They made a BIG mistake with my coverage and had to get supervisors and the help desk involved. Apparently when I called from the dealership and got my new bike covered it went through the system, they even faxed me an ID card so I could ride home. Then I get my Oct. statement and my new bike isn't on it. I called and they show that I called for coverage and that it is in effect but the computer won't let it go through because it is trying to put medical on my new bike and my old one, increasing the premium on my old bike. USAA doesn't offer medical to motorcycles so the computer doesn't know what to do with the request. They said I am covered but it is going to take up to a week to get it straightened out. ?????? |

My statement and what is on the computer all match. I had a Blast before this and I had medical on it as well, never had a problem with it. I had planned on giving them a call anyway, I'll have them double check it for me. |

Kind of, Bodily injury and Medical are different. If you go to USAA.com / Insurance / your auto policy service center it will open your policy for each vehicle covered. In there you can see that there is bodily injury and then medical on a vehicle policy as two separate items. This position of medical coverage is that USAA is saying they don't offer on motorcycles. If you guys have it on your policy please let me know. (Message edited by along4theride on September 20, 2004) |

Thanks for the information!!!! I called and asked someone else at USAA. Apparently whether or not medical is available on motorcycles varies by state. I am in GA and they DO allow it for Motorcycles so the person I spoke to today is getting with the supervisor working on my issue and is supposed to get it resolved. Just so you don't feel like you were the only one to put their info 'out there'. You aren't paying too much more than I. 2003 BUELL Vehicle Subtotal: $342.86 Bodily Injury Limit 25,000/50,000 per person $28.32 Property Damage 25,000 per accident $32.24 Uninsured Motorists Coverage $38.86 Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury Limit 25,000/50,000 per person Uninsured Motorists Property Damage Limit 25,000 per accident $0.00 Medical Payments Limit 25,000 per person $110.02 Comprehensive Deductible 500 per occurrence $19.19 Collision Deductible 500 per occurrence $114.23 Vehicle Subtotal $342.86 |

The medical insurance part is not for the insurer, but for the other person who gets injured by the insurer's bike. I'm 99.99% percent sure that you cannot get a medical insurance for the insurer. You have to go through your health insurance. So make sure that your health insurance does not have any clause that states no coverage resulting from motorcycle operation. |

USAA does cover medical insurance because here in new jersey I got one..... you should ask them again and ask why they offer it in new jersey and not your state Apparently they only offer what the State requires and each state is different. Each state has different minimum requirements and apparently coverage requirements too. The medical insurance part is not for the insurer, but for the other person who gets injured by the insurer's bike USAA's definition of medical coverage-Coverage for reasonable fees for medically necessary and appropriate medical services and the reasonable expenses for funeral services because of bodily injury caused by an auto accident and sustained by a covered person. So make sure that your health insurance does not have any clause that states no coverage resulting from motorcycle operation. That is the biggie most people don't realize, that a lot of medical insurance companies have anti motorcycle clauses. |
