Any recommendations for reasonably priced jackets and gloves?? I'm still riding around with my old stiff leather and torn up gloves from my Harley days. I'm riding a lot faster on the XB than on the Sporty and the wind chill is killin' me! |

Bought alot of new gear lately both from newenough.com and kneedraggers.com. Excellent service and prices from both companies. |

Try Gerbing products, heated gloves and jacket liner. I got the gloves last year, and can ride comfortably down to 15 degrees. They're a little bulkier than normal leather gloves (more like snowmobile gloves) but when it gets chilly it's better to be comfy and a little clumsy than freeze your hands and have no dexterity or feeling! I plan to get the jacket liner soon, but people I know who have it swear by it, for anything below 50-60 degrees. |

I just did order the Orina style 118 gloves for ~$54 after reading this article. I've got the Aerostich 2 piece suit, I have to layer up under it to stay warm though. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/accessoriesandgear/wintergloves0203/ |

One of the smartest buys was getting that electric vest! I liked Aerostiches. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/accessoriesandgear/electricclothing/ |

Luck has very little to do with it. If you want to live in the south, there's room. |

Damn cold here to...high only 85 today. Should get back to normal tomorrow though...92. I may have to break out the thermals and full leathers soon though. |

1) heated grips - the best $25 - 30 you'll ever spend (if you live where it gets cold that is ) I've been using the "toaster style", glue on wiring under regular grips. I've seen them written up, and they've improved the design: left grip heats a bit more than the right (left bar works as a heat sink), and no need for the resistor anymore. 2) heated vest. I bought the Widder, since Aerostitch at the time only sold theirs in a funky blue color. The Widder is *very* nice with some nice added features. Get the electronic thermostat as well. Henrik |

Kimpex grips is what I currently use. Lately I've seen them sold under a different name - those are the ones with the improvements in design. Appropriate, since one of the throttle-side wires have finally snapped off for good. Note: they can be soldered back on a few times - then it' s time to replace. Henrik |

I'm in SC, but I do ride year 'round. I got a set of the Widder gloves for Christmas last year; they work great but are something of a PITA to hook up. There's a harness that you have to string through the sleeves of your jacket, then plug into the receptacle you mount on the bike, then you have to plug each glove in at the sleeve. Of course, occasionally you forget to unplug before you get off the bike. They do make heated vests and sleeves, which all work together with the gloves (so you wouldn't have to fool with the long wiring harness) but you are still tied to the bike with it. Haven't tried heated grips, but I can see where they would be MUCH more convenient. |

KC , ...perhaps you need to wear more than your cut-off teeshirt when you are riding...lets face it - it is going to get a lot colder up here in the NE. |

Then again, a cheaper alternative may be to just have whatever cold weather gear you pick up embroidered with matching tat's in all the right places. Heck, you can even try out some new ones before getting needled. |

THat's similar weather as here in the north, Maryland... but when I ride into work at 6-7am that 45-50 degrees feels down right COLD. Just think of it as preparing for daytime riding in January! (Message edited by tgroghan on September 21, 2004) |

I found a good gear setup for those 55 deg F morning commute/85 deg F afternoon commute days here in SC: I bought a Joe Rocket "dry tech" liner and use it under a mesh jacket. It's windproof (and rainproof- I tried it) and warm in the morning and easily stores in a tank bag for the ride home. |

Glitch, Can you explain the three stages of being a yankee to me? wait.... Never mind I remembered. I also remember my ex sig-other's GPs referring to me as a carpet bagger. The statement was something like this "We had a carpet bagger in the family before. Not anymore though." |

I remember last year when I finally gave in and drove the car to work in November. Several people at the shop actually looked at me and said "You have a car?" |

that price is including shipping with it so I think it's a bargain to get it knowing how much the jacket cost plus shipping |

Grancan1: Can you email me pics of the jacket? And a little about it. I'm looking for a bad weather/textile jacket because I only have leather. I have aerostich pants and might get an Aerostich jacket but they're pretty pricey! Plus I need alterations for my monkey arms so it costs even more. I'm in the south right now (Tennessee, if that counts) for business and it's gorgeous weather but I can't wait to get back home where it's cooler. |
