can you tell me what the advantages to gmail are?

I know that you get a gig of mail space but didnt know anything else.

I have 3 computers and i usually just download my emails from the server as it is.

As you say mookie 1 gig of space only web-based like hotmail. Therefore e-mail is checkable from any pc not just the ones you own.

killer spam filtering is another great reason.

When I downloaded mail to a particular computer, the message I needed to reference was inevitably on the machine I was *not* at.

Of course I could build my own network tunnel into my own system, but then I am for the most part building my own webmail service, maintaining it, and securing it. I did it, and it took far too much time, and google does it better then I did anyway.

I can be contacted at edbarry2002@hotmail.com

Just tried opening my hotmail account again. I type in my password then wait, and the standard 'cannot find server' page comes up.

It's been doing that since Thursday eve. I've mailed hotmail on their 'help' contact click, received three ticket numbers (so I'm getting through) yet they still haven't replied to a friends email address I gave 'em.

Thanks for asking Beast. Think I'm gonna need luck in getting my sean_pepper @ hotmail account back up and running. It's a bummer as I've only ever used that one address in 7 odd years. Address book, saved emails, all sorts of info, and I can't get to any of it. Losing that address is gonna be a nightmare. I've contacts all over the world who's addresses I fear will be lost forever. I didn't think this sort of problem happened. Wonder if I've been hacked?

Doubt you have been hacked, probably a hotmail problem. They probably *could* get it back, and probably will if you pursue it long enough.

Try it from somebody using a different ISP then you do, preferably on a machine you have not used for that purpose before. It probably won't change anything, but might.

Ping me offline before you give up, there might be some other things we can try.

Thanks Bill, I did what you said, tried from my friends laptop and hey presto, I'm back in. Got home tonight, tried my puter, and I'm still back in!

Thanks again.

Andy, will try you again for an invite, or you could send to sean_pepper@hotmail.com seeing as it's working.

You ever go to Sherburn Andy? I bought my first S1W from Eddys, when Pete Grimshaw was manager. Isn't he at Stockport now?

Ta mucho!
