I've recently acquired an 03 Firebolt. I learned the hard way about not blipping throttle. I replaced the plugs and plug wires. I also plugged the "nipply thingy" on the throttle body, I did the oil breather hose mod. I also taped the holes that someone drilled into the air box. The bike felt great and was running pretty good. I was getting onto a highway with no traffic so I opened it up. I got up to 95 and then began to back it down when the rear tire blew out. Luckily my instinctive reaction was a good one. I just clutched it and coasted to a stop.... Man that was scary!! Took forever to come to a stop. So now I'm looking for a new rear tire. I guess I ran over something, my tires were far from being worn out (Message edited by Spag on January 30, 2015) | ||

Dang! Glad you got it over to the side safely. Bummer for sure but this story could have had a very different ending. | ||

That happened to me last summer, scary! bike got suddenly squirelly coming down the on ramp as I hit about 70. I made a messy patch on the shoulder of a busy freeway, that was almost as dangerous as the leak. it's not pretty but here's the patch.. the nail I pulled is just set on top to show. roofing nail with the head worn off.  if you still have life in tire it can be patched from the inside and you can ride on. | ||

Ouch, that's crazy. I wished I new what I ran over. Fxdrydr it definitely could have been worse. I was about an 1/8th mile from the on ramp which had a curve. So I could have lost it big time. I'm not a big speed demon, I like to accelerate hard but back right back down.... I still think I will have some mental scars keeping me from triple digits for a while | ||

You may not have actually ran over anything. Tire pressure is critical. Even more at high, sustained speed. | ||

Yea that's true. I know I had good tread and I didn't see any obvious signs of aging. Tire pressure was checked just before heading out the day this happened... 38psi. 3 miles later kapow!! |
