Aaron;

"Hmm ... why cooling fins on the heads? "

Image is all...'nuff said. (actually I like the cooling fin look...)

"What's that vertical piece on the right hand side of the motor? "

I would guess it feeds an oil tank.

Lovely bike, though. Beats the VTX and the Road Warrior in looks (in my eyes, anyway)

Sorry if I burst anyones bubble here but in my eyes it looks hideous.....bulbous, overweight and I see HD are still carrying on where they left off with the front brakes. If those piddly little calipers can slow that amount of metal down from any sort of high speed in a reasonable amount of time then I'm the queen of Sheba..........

Bulbous and overweight? It's a cruiser, you need to judge it as one. That's kind of the definition!

Ditto on the brakes, but I don't think it's the calipers that are the problem, hell, it has two. It's the small diameter rotor. Not nearly enough mechanical advantage on the wheel.

Mark:

But it will look great with a few fringes, conches and a few decorative chrome skulls ;-)

Now, now...the H2O evoltution is far more important (to me, anyway) then the lack of decent stopping power out of the factory..they'll need after market parts for something, right? ;^D

It's a good first effort (a little late, perhaps) towards fending off the metric cruisers, though.

Thanks Aaron,

I really needed that. HD looks to hit it out of the park with this one. Although it might be a hard sell for the dyed-in-the-wool Harley dudes.

Ahhhhhh, I really needed that.

Now, we need to add nice big rotors up front, and a set of up side down forks, and I would consider buying a cruiser (for the first time in 8 years)

Or at least taking it for a test cruise ;^D

I think Maurice (the Sporster.org GURU) posted these on his website, then someone (maybe him?) put them on ATC, where I saw them and linked them here.

Get ready for a lot of bitching and moaning from the "faithful"

There's a lot of VR1000 features in this motor.

That tube stiking out on the right side looks like a water line coming from the water pump, which looks to be inside the V.

The frame looks like a Suzuki Bandit's.

Where's the oil and oil filter on this thing?

Where's the gas cap? It looks like it's under the seat.

The front brake setup is like the BLAST, with no carrier. It does look small as mentioned.

It also looks like there is no rear axle adjustment, also like the Blast.

I love the instrument cluster and the frame.

Me, I like it. It takes BALLS for HD to come out with this thing now, and not wait till the 100th in 2003. Now what will they do then?

Sorry, I was reading it as a new Sportster but with HD you never can tell. You know, Sportster....good handling.....good ground clearance.....good brakes......powerful engine.....

Then again, if Harley Davidson brought out a bike with square wheels half the US population would buy it. :) :)

Will this mean that a lot of the shade tree HD machanics will have to go to the red headed step children (ie the shade tree UJM mechanics) for advice? ;^D

I like it too...though I say that the oil cooler is where that pipe leads to.

That is very pretty to my eyes. It will be interesting to see how it does. The new Yamaha that is on the cover of Cyyle World is also very pretty and is water cooled.

Not that i would ever buy a cruiser but it does look good.

I will say that I think it will be a hit. The HD name will make it OK to be a modern engine. I am sure we are going to see a very special marketing program to tie this into the whole heritage thing.
