cross posted from over on ATC Posted by anonymous on : Ok - once and for all, here's the skinny on the new Buells. Next week in Los Angeles, Buell will debut the new 1000 mid weight 60 degree v-twin (can you say VR1000?) It can be considered a double Blast and features the first ever Buell R&D motor (not Harley engine.) Red line is an amazing 12,000rpm. The look is a throw back to the S1 style with an aluminum Italian designed frame. But the real shocker is...and hold onto to your helmets... ...on the heels of of the 1000 Buell is a full fuselage racer replica model. Look for it within 6 to 12 months. I you not! NEWS FLASH PEOPLE! Buell is positioning itself to enter the AMA Superbike Circuit. Enjoy the show. Seems like I'm right on track, but we'll know for sure in a week. |

What's YES and what's NO, COurt! Man, you're good. The thing that gives me pause is the 12,000 rpm part. With a single crankpin design? How about that new HD, Beauty, isn't it? The more I look at it the more it reminds me of a YAMAHA VIRAGO! (Airbox under the tank, real fuel tank under the seat, etc.) |

Great photos, I wonder where Maurice got them. Clearly not a custom or a mock-up, that looks like a finished product to me. H2O, yet still very unique, looks not like anything else. I suspect it'll be a huge success. |

It'll be a HUGE success. In fact, ANYTHING Harley-Davidson does the next the next 24 months will be a HUGE success. Stories of $5OK prices for Special 2003 100th Anniversary bikes and folks changing their lives to celebrate the year abound. I like the looks of the thing, I really do and suspect it's been very well sorted out. Looks like the right bike at the right time and it also looks like a better segue' that I'd dreamt of for the air to water move....good work to the product development folks. |

On the partially right and partially wrong, the description is starting to "jive" with other things I have heard from folks who have spent much of the past few months testing in some pretty unheard of venues. The "Launch When Ready" thing plays more of a role, me thinks, than simply introducing one version now and one version later. My PERSONAL take is that I hope no one is pushing Erik Buell to introduce something that he, in his heart, doesn't see as ready. Stakes are too high. The "New" Buell MUST be "New and Improved". But, to add my $0.02 to the above, you can bet your butt that whatever is on the way is going to be magazine cover material and bring things to street motorcycles that will break new ground. Just my thoughts.... Court |

Court; I just hope that the demos that the mags get their hands one will be up to the task (if you've read John Burns response to the Buell bashing letters in the latest Motorcyclist, you'll see, at least their experiences with the Buells)... 1000cc v twin? Italian frame (off of Erik's design, one would hope)? S1 styling? I'm going to be in the market for a new bike in a year or two...I really hope this one stands up to the challenges ahead of it. |

I may just have to buy one...Nice job H-D. If this bike performs as good as it looks, it will be a hit! |

Hmm ... why cooling fins on the heads? Certainly appears to be DOHC, judging from the left side anyway. I gotta believe that's a big twin model, not a Sporty as it's been labled elsewhere. Looks big and heavy and has a lot of rake. Forward controls, too. What's that vertical piece on the right hand side of the motor? The shock mount doesn't look like a strong design to me. Looks like they compromised it's strength into the backbone for the sake of a lower seat height. It's upper tube ought to connect to the frame higher up. The triangulation in the neck area is nice, though. Looks like it would help torsional stiffness. Anyone from CA recognize the markings on the plate? Is that a manufacturer designation? |

Goodness Jose... where did you manage to scare up those photos? More importantly, where did the owner find them? He is only about 15 miles from where I work... I could track him down if there is any interest... Anybody look closely at that first pic? Look at the foot peg position, and the tire type, and most importantly the wear marks on the tire... Unless I am mistaken, that thing has had some serious lean for a cruiser... that tire looks worn about as far over as my Cyclone, and I scrape the pegs on occasion. With every manufacturer and their brother making the cruiser knockoffs, maybe Harley is going to go down the "performance cruiser" path to try and differentiate themselves... not a bad idea actually. And I don't see any pushrods either... Hard to imagine the new Buell would have pushrods if the new Harley does not... seems to me. |

Also, note how the swingarm appears to attach to the motor ... most likely a rubber mount motor? |
