Buell XB9s

2003 with 12,000 miles, decent price, looks like it's in decent shape. . .  I had one just like this before but sold it to get my current Triumph Bonneville which is a great commuter but not a great fun time bike.

I miss the Buell I had, I LIKE THE YELLOW so hush on that  :tongue;

I'd rather have a 2008 and up XB12 model

for collectibility, the 2003 model isn't bad since it's the first year for that model. But the 2008 and up is a better long term bike for reliability, and by the time I save up the money for a 2008 and up model they'll be as cheap as the 2003 model so just waiting isn't a terrible option

and it's November so I won't be one bike much let alone two.

As far as collectibility, I see an XB more as a bike to use and have fun on.

The made in 2002 XB9R would be the more collectable being the first model of the XB series. Not too many of them around.

I love the way this bike looks. I've been wishing for a city cross, but I don't think I'd pass on that.

I found a 2006 Firebolt that I might be able to get for $1500-$2000, but being a Firebolt but it's too tall for me and it has 32,000 miles on it.

But at that price, I might be able to get SCG suspension parts and make it fit me?

would that be worth it as a project bike?

my IDEAL Buell is a 2008 and up XB12SCG. but, those tend to be hard to find.

Yep. You need forks, spring, kickstand, and lower tree, bolts right up : )

Also to make searching easier, the XB9SL uses the same shorter parts as the 12SCG.

Froggy,

is all of that pretty expensive, forks are looking like $800+ for most bikes, and lower tree . .

maybe I'm off base on prices though, what would all of this cost, like can you give me a ball park figure?

and full on 2008 SCGs are around $4500, but they are hard to find

I'd buy used, sell your stock parts, there should be little to no net cost. Forks pop up on ebay and the classifieds here once in a while. Or see if anyone is looking to swap suspensions.

You can buy everything you need brand new, but it will set you back about a grand.

Froggy,

where do I buy the parts? a grand isn't terrible if I get the bike for under $2000

If I look at this another way, if I buy the scg parts, what other Buell models are they easily swappable with?

So I have the parts and when I find a bike for sale again in a good price range, I can swap out the parts and have my scg height bike.

LIke I can't put an SCG shock on a Ulysses right? how about the Long model?

Any Firebolt, Lightning S and SX can be swapped.

The SS/stt/Uly use a different frame/swingarm, and are not compatible.

The other option is to find somebody with the scg suspension that would like to trade. Not sure I'd buy a buell for a collectable, at least not with any expectations of it going up in price.
Btw I like the yellow too!

at this point, would it be better to get a pre-2008 xb12, just since there are more of them out there to get parts from?

I know the 2008 and up xb12s are better engineered though, but they are rarer.
