Just going over a new to me 2005 XB12R and have a couple questions. First, I have part mounted beside the oil cooler that has DryingLine on the label. I assume this is for gas tank, but want to confirm. Has old style petcock on the bottom, which when I opened couple ounces of water came out.
Secondly, my dipstick is aftermarket, I think? For lack of better description it looks like a piece of clutch cable with metal balls crimped on where the level indicators would be. Concern for me is the cold level is higher than just touching the bottom. I'm about to take it out to get it hot to drain, but little concerned about overfill. Previously I owned a 1125CR and a Uly, my first XB12 Firebolt. Appreciate the help.

You have a catch can with a drain. It catches the oil and water vapor that comes form the breathers. You simply drain it from time to time.

I wrote a long post on how to check the oil, then realized you have owned an XB before.

Yes, the oil is most likely over filled if it reads cold. But not all XB's lose oil level when sitting. It depends on the condition of the check valves in the oil system. Some drain into the crank case quickly and some don't. Your results may vary.

Funny thing with the Uly, procedure was to check while idling on the side stand. It was always in the middle of the cross hatch. Not sure why the XB should be different?
Thanks for the info on this fancy catch can.
