How many people have gotten tickets for loud mufflers? Please list:

1. Bike and muffler brand i.e. XB9S, Drummer
2. State

It would also be nice to give story.

i.e. Ticket on interstate between towns on weekend.

I have to ask why you would want to know this.

Are you getting hassled? Do you not like Drummer?

I am going to give in though.

1. XB9S, Drummer race kit.
2. Indiana

No tickets as of yet, but have been pulled over on it twice. Both times, started talked to the officers about the bike,(stroke of luck that both of them were riders!) and they tell me to get along on my way. I love this bike.

BTW, both times were for speeding. Not that I do exceed the speed limit all the time, both times it was 12-15 mph over.

The first time I got pulled over, I still had the stock exhaust on. The second time, the officer did say something about the sound of it, but he wasn't complaining about it being loud. He said he liked the sound and that it wasn't as rude as some that he has heard.

Ya know, I just realized that I need to stop now. Not really answering your questions. I imagine you wanted to hear from people that have gotten tickets for the exhaust note.

Never pulled over for being loud. I have rode through Waikiki several times and not even a glance. Now if I sit at the stop light and rev it up to 6k, I'm asking for it.

"The state Department of Transportation provided the meter and certified all users, said Dennis Kamimura, administrator for the city Motor Vehicle and Licensing Division. The exhaust noise level cannot surpass 95 dB at 3,000 engine revolutions per minute as measured on a tachometer."

The catch is the State does not have a decibil meter to measure this. So all you have to do is ask for the above test to see if you exhaust does not meet the standard. When they can't provide the test, case is thrown out. This is for the State of Hawaii. 95 decibils is pretty damn loud.

Hope this helps

Tatsu the cops in Waikiki have calibrated db meters. DON'T let them fool you into thinking they don't. The officers use them to rate the nightclubs as required by the liquor board requirements with regards to the noise ordinences of Waikiki. When I lived in Waikiki itself I observed on several occasions HPD using the db meters to impound cars as well as shut down parties. If the officer that pulls you over doesn't have on on him I can pretty much garuntee that there is one at the substation that will be brought over forth right. However, on that note, most of the officers have HD's with aftermarket pipes so they will only bug you if your a prick about stuff.

Yeah ...most officers are cool..long as your not reving it up or doing stunts and speeding... they are cool about it.

I haven't been had a problem with my Drummer. I just was wondering how likely it might be in the future that I would get a ticket. I also thought others might also be interested in the same info.

Heck noise in texas....who woulda thunk it to be a problem. I thought texas was dang near lawless.

I wouldn't think it was likely unless you were reving the heck out of it somewhere showing off and attraticng their attention.

Never had a problem in New Jersey (one of the most anal states) with my Drummer. I would have to say my bike was by far one of the quieter bikes of the thousands I heard at Bike Week in Maryland last week.

1. 1942 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead, sort of modified a bit. Drag pipes.
2. Mid-1970's, small eastern Washington town. Stopped in at some small town downtown all night diner for food after leaving a party in the Seattle area at 2am and riding over Snoqualmie Pass via I-90 heading to someplace east of the Cascades. Stopped and ate some breakfast. Upon leaving we were pulled over by the officer who was also at the diner drinking his coffee when we walked in. Wrote me up for defective exhaust since there were no baffles in the pipes, probably because it was 4am by that time. I said thanks and kept it easy the rest of the way out of town. Around 7am we ran into an encampment of a bunch of Ghost Riders camped out by a river, but that's a story for another time and place.

Uh, you only asked about tickets and wanted a story, you didn't say it had to be a Buell and didn't give a time frame. ; )

"the only loud bikes cops even look at are Japanese"

Similar here, but add Triumphs if what an indirect relative tells me of his loud pipe officer incident.

Way back in 1968....... on a Honda C110 Super 50 with a megaphone, winding it out at 30 mph in third. Since then no prob with a Superglide with a SE 2 into 1 no baffle, X-1 with a D&D, or my XB9R and Drummer (the quietest of them all!).Even the LEO that hear them complement on the good sound. It helps being a harmless "looking",grey haired,50 year old, "Pawpaw" dude. "Let Her Rip".

I haven't gotten a ticket, but I did see a sign on Atlanic Ave in Delray Beach, FL that said "No Loud Exhaust." Of course they put the sign up right next to a bike bar. How the hell do you get choppers and harleys to not have loud exhaust. At least half the bikes up there have straight pipes on them.

Thats what I have been enjoying about my R1, no loud pipes. Get crazy with it & dont attract all the cops in a 6 block radius.

1 ticket with the HD...obviously Drag pipes on it. Only reason I got the ticket was because I took off & lost him, then we sorta played a game of cat & mouse for the next 2 weeks. Finally he caught me, but all he did was give me a ticket for noise.

I got stopped by the California Highway Patrol once, he was just a jerk. Gave me crap about the pipe (Drummer), saying I couldn't modify it. My clear tail lens with red LED, no rear pegs, sticky Dunlops throwing pebbles up, and Blue ( non translucent) windscreen. I think he only wanted to check out my bike. Only a verbal warning. Other bikes passed by louder than mine and he ignored them.
