OK... I can't decide if I did this because I wasn't thinking, or I just WASN'T thinking... I was building up a brand new 2010 Uly wheel. In honor of the new wheel i bought a new pulley and Scalloped rotor from AL, along with new bolts for said pulley and rotor (yes, I know you don't "need" to buy new bolts, but I'm keeping the old wheel built up, so I didn't have any). I was getting started and realized there were no washers in the bolt packs. Manual clearly shows the pulley washers... So, I ran down to Stoneway Hardware and grabbed six 3/8 stainless washers for the pulley, and six 5/16 stainless washers for the rotor... Came home slapped the pulley and the rear rotor on and torqued the bolts nicely. Stepping back to sip some coffee and admire my handy work, I notice that my old Uly wheel's rotor bolts have no washers... I reference the manual... Says nothing about washers... My long winded question is, Is this a really bad thing? Will it be fine if I leave it? I'm guessing the lack of washers has something to do with heat transfer, maybe? But I don't really know... Brain - You'll be fine, with or without the washers..! Flat washers are there to protect the surface form repeated "on & offs" and the scaring it will do. On thinner cross sections of material, they are there for additional side or pull thru support. In the case of both the pulley and brake disc, there should be no side loads and I assume these won't be coming apart and going back together often...so again, you are fine. Mike | ||

Maybe not ok! The button head bolt heads run VERY close to the brake caliper bracket. I do not know the actual clearance, but I would check it upon installation of the wheel. | ||

Turns out it's OK so far... about 3,000 miles and no issues. ...and the clearance appears to be fine. | ||
