Been doing some two-up riding and noticed something... XB9R - passenger seat gets nice and toasty! Makes me curious - does that rear cylinder fan suck air off and away from the engine? Or does it blow air down onto the engine? Seems like it must suck air away - would explain why the rear seat might be picking up all that heat. Anybody happen to know? . . . . . . . . . huh, what were you thinkin? | ||

It sucks.  The fan pulls air off of the rear cylinder (both cylinders, actually) and pushes it into/around the tailsection. In other words, the air travels from the front of the bike to the rear of the bike. Mike '04 XB12R | ||

Yeah, it gets pretty hot back there ... I think I stayed on for 45 minutes once before I insisted my hubby pull over. Although the warmth was nice during the winter months (Yes, it gets cold in Yuma), it's not pleasant for long in the warmer months. Don't have to worry about that any more since I kicked Charlieboy off my bike and onto his own - Love not being the passenger anymore! | ||

I am going to try some reflective heat shield material under the seat, between the shock and the battery box, and under the airbox. Will post if it makes a difference. (Sure glad I've already had children xbolt12 | ||

It gets so hot my cell phone turns itself off. I thought I was not locking the keypad but after this happening everytime I went riding it got me thinking. Maybe I should keep it in my pocket instead of the underseat tray. |
