The piston on my 2003 XB9 has decided to disintegrate. I am having a hard time tracking down replacement pistons (XB12 pistons are plentiful). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanx.

I'm guessing you have tried the dealership and they show none available. Have you tried
http://www.buellsterparts.com/
they might have some used ones available. I don't know if American Sportbike would have them.

If all of that fails then you're only option I can think of might be the 1050 kit upgrade. Although I don't know if you want to deal with the tuning involved for that along with a fairly expensive route.

Big bore kit. You probably need to do the cylinder too so you are half way there.

Did the disintegration mess up the bottom end with kibbles and bits?
My old Suzuki RM125 did that.

So far it just looks like on top of the pistons... nothing made it to the case (That I have found)

Getting a bunch of pinging ripping the tops of the pistons apart?

Actually... not that I had noticed. I assume it was running lean. It had a race kit when I purchased it. I added a Micron exhaust system. I s'pose I should have had it tuned after that but tuners are hard to come by in SE Michigan.

If you already had the race brain in there, It should have been able to richen it up enough to avoid damage. Both pistons ruined?

scary stuff.

Yeah... I think the phrase I've heard was "kibbles and bits". I've found an outfit that sells stock size 9r pistons.

Please share the name of the outfit.

Not that I need 9 pistons (knock on wood), but it'd be a good reference to have the name in this thread for the next guy.

I did the BigBore upgrade on a 2003 XB9s, with the Revolution Performance. 1050 Kit. also had the heads ported and swapped out the pushrods..
I posted some photos here back in 2011.

I had the existing cylinder/pistons etc removed and placed in storage, they're in exec. condition.
Sadly located in Australia.
(I'm currently working in Sth America)
