Hi everyone, I have been lurking around Badweather for awhile now but this is my first real post. I currently have an '08 Blast, and while its been fun, I just need something more.

I am short, which is partially why I went with the Blast, so I was wondering if I should go for the 12SCG or the 9SX and lower it with the SCG set up?

From what I can gather the 12s cost anywhere from $1k-2k more than the 9s, but I cannot really find what it would cost to do the 9SX to SCG conversion besides the seat costing $400 new from Corbin. I have found a handful of posts on this site asking if anyone has an SCG set up for sale and none of them have replies so it seems they are hard to find.

Is the time and effort of converting a 9SX going to be worth the $500 saved? Or is it going to end up costing roughly the same anyways?

Thanks in advance

If you can find someone to swap components, going from a low to normal height and vice versa can be free, the hard part is finding someone to do it.

If you bought new forks, rear shock, kickstand, seat, and lower tree it will set you back a little over a grand.

I have no idea on your height situation, but it is very possible the standard height bikes are doable for you. Cheapest way to lower them is to swap in the SCG seat for $100 or possibly some aftermarket custom seat made for you.

I am short also. I owned an XB12s with the "low" seat. It was about the same as my old Blast. I could tiptoe both sides, or put one foot or the other down firmly.

Your results may vary.

Thanks for the advice. I think I am just going to pursue a 12SCG since I'll be able to ride it comfortably immediately.

I also saw that the 12s only weigh about 5 pounds more than the 9s, so its not like the extra weight of the 12 will be a big factor.

The difference in weight is mostly due to the different muffler. I doubt the motor itself contributes any meaningful amount of weight, the differences internally between a 9 and 12 are the pistons, crank, and connecting rods. The cases, heads, cylinders, cams, etc are identical.
