ok i am looking at getting a XB12 airbox lid but then im not sure if the fast system is worth the extra dosh over just fitting a K+N. what sort of power increase will a K+N give compared to the fast systems 6hp from 3-6000 rpm.

and would it be a noticeable difference?

cheers

morgan

Speeking from personal experience (having used both options on my 9s). The F.A.S.T kit offers far superior performance gains over & above the OE K&N + 12airbox lid.

People have reported here that the FAST system gives a bit more power at the top end at the expense of the low end. The Helmholtz resonator is built to boost the low end.

A Helmholtz resonator is like a bottle. Blow across the neck and you hear a low note. The airbox of the Buell is just a bottle that has a low note in the low rpm range of the bike to increase torque. The main reason it was put in was to dampen the intake noise but why not get more torque too! ; )

The tube frame Buells included a Helmholtz resonator in their intake/airbox. Not sure the XBs airbox is properly characterized as such.

I've been wondering what a twelve's airbox poked full of holes might do on top of the airbox alone. It might very well achieve similar performance as the FAST system.

I've cut all of mine away except for the top, K&N, and drilled a few holes in my muffler and I'm extremely happy with it. I have modified two other xb's (12R's) and they are very happy with it. No prob's........Odie

Blake, I am not sure of most of the info that I post. I am a retired engineer. Most of what is posted here has very little scientific content to the posts. That means that the vast majority of posts here are just opinion. Please take my posts as just my opinion. i.e. Something to be checked or verified before use.

Why are y'all calling it a "heat blanket"? A "heat blanket" provides heating. Maybe "insulation" or "heat shield" is a more accurate term?

Frank, me too. : ) Always good to see another Texan here on BadWeB.

Gschuette, try looking on www.ramraceco.com the link you want is titled " velocity stack challenge " I had a F.A.S.T system on my 9s, and it does what it's supposed to !

Affordable perfromance for XB's without any major modifications.
