Does anyone know why the new 9SX has an increased torque rating over last years 9S ? ( 70 vs 68 ) If it is something simple I want that increase for my bike!!

2003 was 68
2004 was 70
I think the DDFI was tweaked for 2004, It was called DDFI 2, I believe.

It's the whole intake and injection system is from the 12, I think. Throttle bodies, airbox, the works. Not sure what parts were different, but I think they are all 12 stuff now (which makes sense, minor differences why not make all the parts interchangable).

Buell site lists throttle body for the City Cross at the same 45mm diameter as previous XB9's. It must be the 12 airbox lid and possibly an associated remapping of the DDFI.

Throttle body diameter is 45 like last year, but it is an all-new throttle body and DDFI system just like the 12. In essence it's now a 12 system with a smaller bore throttle body.

I believe there's a lighter crank as well.

I wonder how all this information is going to affect my plans to boost mine to 1200cc.
I think this is all very good news, indeed.

Anonymous,
Thanks for the info. Even better knowing there are significant improvements to performance. I guessed that fuel efficiency would also improve. Great stuff...

EPA Urban/Highway Test2
MPG - 50/65 mpg (4.7/3.6 L/100 km)

65 mpg! Wow! I'd like to see any other 92 HP sport bike get anywhere close to that level of performance.

I got a feeling the 2004 9 was running the 12 FI system. Kinda explains why there is an exhaust valve terminal on the stock ECM.

It's just a standardization of like parts to cut the cost of production down.
