so i just put a different tail on a 12Ss that i picked up after a guy flipped it over. while swapping parts out i came across this wire that i can not find the other end to...

first xb lightning ive really messed with, and non of my firebolts have anything similar.

also, is that plug the diagnostic plug on the lightnings?

That plug is for the exhaust valve thing I believe...that looks like extra ground for maybe a trickle charger or something of the like

if it was a trickle charger wire it should have been connected to the negative post on the battery, not grounded to the tail. atleast ive never seen one done that way.

I just took a look at my '06 XB12Ss. That wire goes to the wiring harness that plugs into the circled mystery plug. It's all for the exhaust servo.

I do have a fourth wire in that bunch though. It's for my trickle charger pigtail.

hmm, i thought for sure that plug was the diagnostic plug like i have under the front fairing on my firebolts. but now that i walked out and looked at the plug on the firebolt its rectangle not triangle... so, i suppose that could be for the servo. thought that the few servos i messed with was a flat plug up in the airbox, but guess im not sure where the other end of that went to.

thats wierd, i deal with those things on an almost daily basis and have never seen one hooked any where but to the battery posts! i suppose theres no real reason you couldnt do it the way yours is, just never seen it.

guess i can just eliminate that little end then since i have no servo on this bike. hmm now that i think about it that may be why the engine light is one even though it seems to run good. the bike has a D&D on it. havent even taken the airbox off to look to see if the servo is there. i just assume it isnt.(really havent spent much time on this thing yet, been to busy)

odd that i cant find that servo eliminator resistor plug on american sportbike anymore though...

The diagnostic plug is farther back on the right side, near the tip over sensor. You probably know that the exhaust servo can be turned off with ECMspy and keep the engine light from coming on. At least you can do that once you track down that diagnostic plug.

Trickle charger doesn't need to technically be plugged to battery...youll notice that fat wire in the bunch goes straight to the battery...anyhow I looked at mine I don't have that ground and I dont have the exhaust servo so that seems logical

Yea that's exactly what its for.
The triangle plug in the end of the servo harness if you pull the whole harness off the bike and that random ground was for that harness.

the Diagnostic is on the opposite side of the tail as that plug and just to the rear of the fuse box. 4 Pin Deustch connector.

yes, thats the ground to the chassis, just seems no one ever makes the extra effort to mount they tender anywhere but the battery lol.
