Just bought my Ulysses two weeks ago. First ride I blow a belt. Replaced it with a new one from American Sport Bike and now I'm ready to ride. I went out and everything was fantastic until about 40 miles into it. Some nice sweepers and the bike starts cutting out, backfiring and bucking. Check engine light comes on. I make it home, barely and discovered a few things. My exhaust is a Drummer with the exhaust valve controller relocated under the seat without the cable. I had a tool bag and first aid kit in there with it. Would that stuff jamming up the servo make the bike run bad?
The battery was also low so I charged it. Started the bike today with no Check Engine Light at idle but haven't ridden it yet.
Oh, I also did the TPS zero so that may have helped.
Hoping I don't need a new ECM.

Congrats on the new purchase. Sorry to read that you are having trouble with it ;(
If you can contact the previous owner, they would best know the bikes history, and be able to point you in the right direction.

That and reading the CEL (but if you cycle the key switch a a total of 50 times it will clear the code)
The service manual would be very helpful and worth it, especially if you can find it for free. I'd sooner buy it from EBR than a stealership, but hd has the rights ;(

Why is the actuator taking up useful space under the seat? If you're going to leave it pluggerd in (to keep from causing a CEL) might as well leave it ontop of the airbox where it's out if the way. And I do my think that actuator would make the bike run bad

The interactive exhaust servo can be turned off, eliminating the need to have the servo on the bike all together.

No luck on the previous owner, I bought it from a dealer who had picked it up from another dealer as a trade-in. I'll move the servo today. One more thing I've considered is this. The ECM was only held in with one bolt. I added another and what I'm thinking is that when I tightened it down maybe I put some physical stress on the ECM causing it to malfunction? If it has a crack that may have opened it up and exposes the internals and puts them under duress. I'm going to remove the second bolt today and also add a ground wire or two. I've read of a similar starting issue and poor running that my bike exhibits.

I wish there was a Buell shop I could drop the bike off at and have them go through it. I'd gladly pay a thousand bucks to have Erik go through and make it all right!

There is no electrical manual for 2006 models, so make sure you have the right year books, a 2008+ bike is significantly different and that is why they split electrical into a separate book.

Also, cracked ECMs are fairly common on the Ulys, and can cause your symptoms. Check the Big Bad and Dirty section for more info

The backfiring and bucking could be number of things. One of which is a bad cam position sensor.

If memory serves me right, Ulys have in the past had problems with the seat putting pressure on the ECM causing problems. Check to see if you have rub marks.
