Hi guys, I have a rather large female friend that wants to come for a ride on the back of my 12. I know the motor has the torque to haul her down the road, but the rear seat on my 12 is tiny. Any suggestions? Jack |

PS remember to check on the scales that both of you come in under the safe working load (SWL). SWL is my main reason why pillions need to buy their own bike. It's a good bail out when you don;t want to double. (Message edited by starter on August 31, 2004) |

Here is what you do, Ride around with the cowl on, and NEVER tell the "rather large ones" about the seat hidden underneath. |

If its just for a short ride tell her to climb on and jack the preload on the rear shock all the way up. I have had a few close friends who are not small on the back of mine for a quick ride. Just ask her if she can deal with the feel of a thong. If she really wants a quick ride and YOU are comfortable with the added weight then take her. Just make certain she understands to not lean at all, as her weight being higher then yours can cause the bike to shift unexpectedly. |

Had to clean the screen on this one! Joojoo, my imagination is way too active for a statement like that! Then again I needed that break from reality. Seriously tho, a lot of weight is not recommended on these bikes. |

When you say rather large..what are you referring to? Is she an amazon? Is the weight proportionate to height? Some folks like to pick on others choices, but I tell you what...some of the "larger" gals will rock your world in the sack. Just leave the lights off |

nuthin against large people at all... but all I can think of is Cannonball Run...with the 2 guys on the motorcycle - the big dude posing as the wife - and they spend half the time on just the back wheel cuz he won't lean forward... aaaah...good times |

Hey guys, Shes around 220....5 foot 7....nice face though. Anyway, its not her face I worry about, its her . Its a fat one. It wont fit on the little seat I have. Ill try tomorrow though, just around my building so she stops asking. Wyckedflesh, I will jack the of my bike up to the full preload...keep the front stable. We wont go fast though.... Well see what happens...thanks for the help dudes. Jack |

Not only full preload on the rear shock, but up the compression damping to near max too. You could always remove the rear foot pegs/brackets. |

"You could always remove the rear foot pegs/brackets." This worked for me for over 12 months, had Kathy convinced it was a Solo only bike, then I am trying to fit some soft luggage and realised that without rear foot peg mounts there was no attachment points so put back on. CAN YOU SAY SPRUNG. |

You could always remove the rear foot pegs/brackets. Probably the easist solution. I yanked mine off along with the passenger seat. No rides for anyone no matter what their size is. |

Paul, Should've removed the pegs and just re-attached the brackets. Or is Kathy savy enough on bikes to know what's what. Just had another idea. Bean burritos for lunch. "Yeah hop on honey, oh man... those burritos are really starting to kick in... phhhhbbbbtttphbphbpht... whew! EX-CUSE me! Ready to go? |

Personally, I love taking people for rides. They usually don't ask again though. |

My girl comes on the back every few weeks (takes her that long to forget the last time). Hot Tip: Never give a girl carbon knuckle gloves. It took my girl about 3 red lights to figure that they can be used to do some serious damage on my ribs if I ride like an idiot. |

I have been smacked in the back of the head after a wheelie or two by my wife. She doesn't care much for that kinda riding.. |

Joojoo, Combine her weight with your weight and see if your over the limit. Jack up the preload to max as noted, but do so when the lady isn't around. Avoid any bumps and avoid hard acceleration. Her seat to seat fit is her concern, not your's, so don't worry about it. Take it easy and let her let you know how you're doing. Yeah, yeah, I've got a few rib dents of my own. Apparently there is some direct connection between the bike's throttle and the passenger's punch reflex. And somehow I think I've already heard the story of the Smartest Motorcycle Ever. Heard it or read it, can't recall, but it was/is a good story and well worth the reminder sometime. And did everyone know that the rear vents on a Vanson/Buell jacket make for fine handholds for a passenger? Makes it easier for the person in front to breath too. |

I had a girl (thin one) dump me because I wouldn't take another girl (large one) for a ride and I made the comment about the bike having load limits. |
