Haven't posted much in a while, but i recently got my 03 XB9R back on the road. After trashing a shifter fork in the trans four years ago, I pulled the motor out, split the cases, and sent the trans to a shop down in Florida for a better than new rebuild. I did not want to have the issue again. At that time the local HD shop happened to have a NRHS 1050 kit on sale (technically 1020) so i snagged it. However the bike eventually sat in this state for quite some time....

over this time i moved homes, changed jobs, bought an S1W which then got stolen from me, picked up a sportster, and occasionally made small progress on the Firebolt. This past summer i decided it was long overdue and it needed to be finished out, it had become a burden on my mind. So i started to get some progress done and accumulate some farkles from some Badweb sponsers

I enlisted the help of a good friend and brother of a bueller who is a HD tech and loves sportys and buells to install the big bore kit and pushrod tubes, and generally finish out the bike, since he had just gone independent and opened his own shop. I had some more parts powdercoated: engine V brace, inspection covers, front sprocket (even tho its covered atm) and the kickstand. I wasn't sure how it was all going to come back together, but i think it turned out ok:

and these were taken on my obligatory new years day ride for my obligatory new years day meal : )

even tho it hasn't been on ecm spy yet, the motor is running well, and the trans shifts smoother than it ever did stock, almost finished with the break in miles and got some Amsoil for her. She sure is fun to ride again and man did I miss her ...

Looks good. I love Love LOVE the headers!!!!!!!
The white seat looks great, too.

I've found the engine scoops easy to paint and that they are good places to add color. The front piece on the left snaps off and pops back on easy so no masking if you want to do it a different color than the rest of the scoop

But ... Is that the 03 belt and pulleys?

thanks guys...
i always loved the factory blue ceramic header on the X1W, so i found a local guy years ago that was ceramic coating Mustang 5.0 headers and told me he could get blue....

that is the original 03 pulley set up, i never saw the need to upgrade, yet. That rear pulley was powder coated silver years ago, and i'm on my second belt, even thought the original was still running fine with a pencil sized hole in it..

The CF puck covers are here:
