After struggling with my odd fan and cold idle issues on my 2006 XB12ss, it's starting to look like I may have a bad ECU. I would really like to borrow a 2006 XB12 race ECU from someone first to see if that fixes my issue (I'll pay shipping both ways). If anyone has one I could borrow that would be amazing. At any rate, I still need to figure out where to buy one if that does fix it. Should I buy a new race ECM from EBR? If so, which one? Isn't there one that you can reflash and one you can't? Thanks all! |

Is it bad from the connectors being dislodged from the housing? I work in the electronics field and would be willing to try resoldering it if you think that's the cause. I live in Holliston, by the way. |

I'm really not sure what causes it to be "bad". I don't see any obvious physical problems with it. I've just been told by numerous Buell experts that my odd symptoms sound like a "bad" ECU. If it is soldering related I'll definitely take you up on your offer. Thanks! |

Cutting the box open is not as simple as it seems, it is filled with a black rubber potting compound, and the case needs to be cut open. I can't remember if these use lead free solder, but broken joints at the connector can be common on some S style machines due to poorchoice of mounting location. |

Everything is lead free nowadays. (other than the batteries!) 60/40 tin lead is great stuff but the no lead alloys are more brittle. Other issues with lead free are "tin whiskers" and "tin pest". Tin is a weird metal. It does bizarre things when left alone under certain circumstances. Lead seems to reduce the freaky stuff to a good extent. |
