I picked up an STT today and wish to add a little more comfort. I have previously owned a couple of Blasts and an 06 Uly. I was forced to sell the Uly in 09 and have missed it since... So an opportunity arose to get another XB and I chose the 07 STT.

What all parts are shared between the Uly and STT?

Has anyone actually measured the drop from the ULY pegs and mounts?

How do they compare to Knight 2" pegs?

Does anyone have a comfort kit for sale?

Are there any issues I need to watch for?

Are heated grips still available?

What all is required to install the Uly windshield and flyscreen?

Is there a better seat for the STT?

Are there any upgrades I should attack to prevent future failures like the 77 connector or similar?

I noticed a thin layer of oil near the rear cylinder. Are valve cover gaskets known to fail from 07?

Thanks

Take off your windscreen and headlight and check all the wires back there, and the grounds on the steering stem. They are known to break, especially if your wiring loom is pulled tight when you move the handlebar to the extreme left or right.

I wish I could have found a STT. I want the long travel suspension...

to go to a Uly flyscreen you will need to replace the 2 Lightning front "modules" that the current screen attaches to with the 3 Uly ones. Assuming you want adjustable brackets for the shield you could then get the other parts from Madstad ... flyscreen, brackets, & shield. I have 2 of the Madstad shields (1 with brackets & Uly tall shield & the 2nd with no brackets). I've been pretty happy with both.

Great Bikes, congratulations! I loved the handling of the STT over any other XB I ever got to demo on the track (also rode a 12S, and 12R at the trackday/ demo event).

Rocker box gaskets - They can fail and will cause problems if ignored... Failure to fix this in a timely manner may cause fueling problems such as fouled injectors and eventually leading to a sometimes sketchy fuel pump to give up the ghost. Do your rocker box gaskets before they ruin the fan, leaving your bike parked for indeterminate periods of time. Ask me how I know...

On those gaskets, seems like using a fairly light coat of Hylomar to back up the gaskets can help them out a bit. I didn't get a lot of miles on my bike after fixing them. I think the previous owners habits of starting and riding with no warm up time may have caused their premature failure prior to 5K miles.

On the comfort kit - the rear header heat shield is a nice addition. I'd recommend leaving the beauty covers off the sub-frame pockets, they seem to impede airflow quite a bit, causing increased frame temp and leading sometimes sketchy fuel pumps to give up the ghost.... see above.

Several options on the heated hand-grips. I followed Al's (A.S.B.) recommendation and put heater elements under standard grips and used the Buell right hand switch pod from the Uly with the switch for the grips for a nice clean look and no need to find special grip when the heated ones get ratty (Uly heated grips have the element in the rubber grip itself).

The Palmer brackets with a small Uly shield will look sharp and improve wind protection. The Laminar Lip does a decent job of it too, and is a less expensive, though not so much all weather option.

Frame and swingarm on the Uly, STT, and Ss are all the longer versions. Uly having a different subframe (drilled side rails) and tail piece. Cannot comment on the pegs or overall interchangeability of other parts.

Here's the old ad for mine if you want to look at pics for ideas or whatever:

I can find my ECM spy thread which is probably an interesting read, and there's a recent discussion on the sometimes fuel pump issues on the Uly thread, I'll find you a link for that too, seems a lot of hot weather riding tends to kill them.

I've been firing mine up and riding right off for over 52K miles now. Still on the original rocker box gaskets.

Believe it or not I walked in to the local HD Botique last year ready to order a set of factory heated grips and walked out with a pair. Yes they had them on the shelf, very lucky I'm sure. They are made by Magura, who's beem around since as long as I can remember, like the 70's man. They work well, come with the switch gear and the kit is like a buck and a half.

I don't know what seat you have that you want to upgrade. My stock 1 up seat is about the most comfortable stock seat I've had on a bike in recent memory. When I bought the STT I started looking at custom jobs because that's where I usually end up. Decided stock was fine for me and what I use the bike for. But, if I were going to make a change I'd take a long look at Baldwin custom seats if I were you. They look nice and get rave reviews

anyone have a race ecm they are willing to let go? I was hoping to avoid spending 330 for a non programmable unit.

What is difference between the ebr ecm for stock exhaust and jardine?

Anyone have any of the following for sale:
ZTL2 brake setup
uly comfort kit
race ecm
kn or equivalent air filter
ecmspy cable

Stock exhaust is going to have the variable flow functions for the exhaust valve, perhaps a bit more restrictive then the Jardine, where you'd tune for constant flow and of course less restriction on that exhaust. I got excited every time I saw an EBR ECM go up for sale here, but they were generally not for stock exhaust, I wouldn't run them on my bike.

I've got parts around to build another spy cable, mine went with my bike when I sold it last month.

I could put one together on Sunday afternoon... are you looking to borrow one or buy? I sourced the cables from Mouser Electronics, and got the connectors off of e-bay. Also, A.S.B. sells them:

what is the max riser we can use on the STT? I was wondering if a 2" or 2.5" riser will work?

Thanks

I don't have that answer off the top of my head, but the Uly cables will swap right in if you need extra length, also the Uly bars themselves if you wanted to go that route.

any idea how much is gained from STT to X bars? I once had a Uly and installed 2" risers on it as I recall without issue.

My goal is to reduce the load on my wrists...

Thanks froggy

>>>what is the max riser we can use on the STT? I was wondering if a 2" or 2.5" riser will work?

I own two 07 TT’s, White and Black. On White Buell I have a 2’ Rox Riser. On Black Buell I have a 2” Rox Riser and a 1” Precision Machine riser. I’ve set Black Buell up for long distance riding.

White Buell has all the stock cables but required rerouting the Brake Line and Throttle Cables. On Black Buell I had to use a ULy Clutch Cable and Uly Brake Line but with some clever rerouting was able to keep the TT Throttle cables.

I also have Madstad shields and love them. On White Buell I have their very light “Buell” shield. On Black Buell I installed the larger Spyder shield.

Is the lower triple tree from the 08+ Uly a good fit to get better turn radius out of the XB?

While I haven't seen done on anything other than a X or XT, it should work fine on a SS/STT. It won't work on a Firebolt or short wheelbase Lightning due to differences in the frame.

Is the lower triple tree the only part needed to get more travel? Are there any other parts I would need?

Thanks Froggy

You just need both the upper and lower tree. Optional, you need a longer pin for the ignition lock. The stock pin is not long enough to lock into the frame with the different trees.

More details on the pin here: http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/ 424979.html?1230498586
