believe it or not, with NO burnouts, i got LESS mileage out of my sportec m1 rear tire than i did with doin a FEW burnouts with the stock dunlop...i MAYBE got 1900 miles out of the m1 : (

Ive gotten 3500ish out of my m1's n its pretty damn flat in the middle now but no threads showing yet.

what size metzelers are you guys running? 180 or 190 width?? about to order up a new rear, and would like to hear from any one running a 190. thanks

Running a 190 for anything other than looks is not worth it. They cost more, don't handle as well, and give the false impression the bike is resisting turn in.

I think anyone that runs the stock "180" Dunlop can tell you what a 190 tire is like...

I run a 180 metzeler and am VERY happy with it. I was actually considering a 170 for my next tire...

I have gone thru several sets of M1's and find I get a few more miles than the stock Dunlop's. But the big difference is the way the Metzler's handle gravel on the road. IMHO they are far superior to Dunlop's in that situation and have as good or better wet or dry traction. I use the stock 180 size. By the way, when the tread gets thin, it's time to replace them. The first rear tire I wore out, I had the tech slice it open and was surprised how thin the remaining tire was.

You can't run M1's till they are bare rubber like you can the Dunlop's which still have plenty of rubber left.

I ran my D207 down pretty good and it was VERY thin as well. I would say less than 1mm in the center. No cords showing at all. The Sportecs are far superior in the wet.

I think if one were to go to the 190 Metzeler, the bike would handle a lot more like the stock 207...

I don't think it will handle at all like the Dunlop.Reason being the crown of the tire is much rounder.Just think the 190 is uneeded.

just this morning put a new Z6 on (180 width) very happy with the last one, it got 6400 miles of pretty rough service, lots of gravel, and hi speeds. the original D207 was complete trash after 2700 miles. top recommendation for the Z6

I'm sure it wouldn't handle "like the Dunlop", but I think it would handle "a lot more like the Dunlop". As I recall someone measured the installed width of the Dunlop and found it was very close to 190. The profile is different and that's certainly important, but I think with the 190 profile it should be flatter than the 180 and I think the 180 is about as flat as I would want it.

I hear it's easier to use the edge of a 190 (I know it was on the Dunlop), but I've had to get it a lot farther over to use the edge of a 180 Metzeler.

I think the 190 is 10mm wider and 4mm shorter than a 180. This gives a flatter profile. As you can tell from the pic above, it's easier to get a flatter profiled tire to it's edge.

i ran a metzler m1 190 and just swapped to a 180. i just say from experience, get the 180. the bike falls into the corner compared to the 190, especially when a 190 is flat in the center. it wont lean over worth a d@mn!!
