I recently had my 04 Buell Firebolt engine replaced/rebuilt with a Revolution Performance 1250 Kit. The kit had new pistons, valves, ported and polished, cylinders, new crankshaft, the whole thing. This was done after a long time of it just sitting and not being ridden. As soon as it was completed, it started right up and run fine for a short testride.

The mechanic, is troubleshooting it now. After a TPS reset three days later, it now backfires, and will not idle. The mechanic rides it for a while and still doesn't stay on. The fuel filter was replaced, the fuel pump replaced and pressure checked, and injectors checked and also replaced, and the spark plugs, coil, cam sensor and even the ECM replaced. He is unsure of where to go from there. Is there anything else that can be done.

This smells like an electrical issue to me. Did he check the "77 connector" to see if it has self destructed yet? On an 04 that's really likely. This document details that:

...also check all the ground straps on the bike, and make sure none of the wire looms have chafing.

I will get this to the mechanic and see what the outcome is. Could there be anything else that is wrong?

I'm sure there is a long list of things that it could be. I'm just not sure what exactly.

Well, the mechanic is not sure what is going on still. He has checked a laundry list of things but no success. He was debating on checking replacing the wiring harness but I am very hesitant on it. I am inclined to think that the bike needs some serious tuning from ECMSPY or something to make up for the 1250cc engine plus RP610. I have the EBR ECM but some say that wouldn't be enough.
