...from the aftermath of this hurricane. Nevertheless, the scorn and derision directed toward Buells by some on this board who fancy themselves talented riders of "real" sportbikes is growing tiresome. It's a sort of self-righteous aloofness that is hard to take. Excepting very straight roads, Rossi could certainly catch a 749 on a 9R if he chose; only an idiot would think he could hold Rossi off in that situation. If not an idiot, then a very self-absorbed ego. Speaking of self-absorbtion, that is probably the biggest requirement for going 172mph on public roads. Roads are not race tracks, but have unexpected vehicles with women and children inside. I am not sure at which speed my conscience would begin howling, but I feel morally uneasy even at the speeds my 12R can attain. Lastly, my bike is not the slow and average-handling machine it is so often made out to be. I love it thoroughly. If you have a difficult time keeping up with other bikes on a 12R you should probably rethink your technique. If your difficulty arises from abbreviated top speeds on public roads, you should probably rethink your value system. I'll probably regret this rant later, but presently I am just sick of checking in only to read another slam against the bikes that are the focus of this board. |

Well considering this Excepting very straight roads, Rossi could certainly catch a 749 on a 9R if he chose was covered in another topic of which I had no part, who knows. BTW...read the posts, the folks I see "slamming" the XB's are actually the folks who own them. 12 owners vs 9 owners, N.Dakota XB9 riders crying because their bike wont do 3rd gear wheelies & their buddies bike has 40 mph mpre top speed, etc. Think before you throw a rock, because I shoot back. |

When I bought my bike, I didn't want anything but a Buell. Hell, last year I almost bought a '99 X1 to go along with the Blast. I just wanted a bigger Buell. I didn't care whether it was a 9 or a 12, S or R. I wound up getting my red XB12R because my wife said she liked it better than the others. I looked at other bikes, but none of them interested me. I don't care about top speed. Hell I'll doubt I'll hardly ever push the bike too it's limits, unless I'm on a track of some sorts. My point, I don't give a crap what anyone has to say about my bike or Buell Motorcycles. I love my bike, not yours. |

A Buell is what it is. It's something different to each owner. To me, my 12s is the perfect urban assault machine. I love the rush it gives rippin' around Dallas. I have other bikes that each serve a purpose of their own. And I most certainly don't feel the need to talk about them here! So preach on brotha' Sshbsn! I couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately, as my dad always says, "there's a j@ck@$$ in every crowd." It could be worse though. There could be two. From what I've seen, there's really only one here. -- |

I for one was never interested in anything that resembled a (road) racing motorcycle, and felt those who bought one of these "Crotch Rockets" and proceeded to break every law none to traffic cops, was ( and maybe still is ) an idiot. As I have grown older, possibly more mature, depending who you ask, my taste in motorcycling has evolved. I've gone from numerous dirt bikes to street cruisers, to what I now feel is one of the best "Street-able" Sports bikes out there. It's like being born again on the road. I must admit I have hit speeds I never intended to, and this may be the only downside of owning an XB. It is so quick and agile, it begs to be pushed harder than the street's allow. Sooo, I am looking forward to learning a new riding skill, and hope to get involved in some amature racing events, track days, Battletrax etc... where I can DO those things that intrigue me now, and if I like it, (and develop any skill), I may then want to pursue something with more power, "Race-able" power. This buell has opened my eyes to a new world of riding, it's like being a kid on my first dirt bike all over again. I enjoy this web site, and all the info within. The information is helpful, and commentary quite colorful. Why it's down right entertaining at times! PS. the spell check thing is great....IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SPELL.... |

Yeah, I get passed all the time going down "the spars". EVERY time though, it most certainly does NOT look like it was easy (and I don't fight to stay in front, I ride my own ride) and they are pushing far harder than I am and I'm just cruising along. I've never had anyone catch up to me while I was making time. I'm certainly not saying I'm the best out there, far from it, but it's a fact. Buells are VERY fast in the tight mountains. I like the tight mountains the best. Perfect bike for me . |

I'm still new around here, so someone put me in my place if I get into a counter-rant... Sshbsn - This website has got to be one of the most amazing sites I've seen. It has a zillion posts from all sorts of people every day with all sorts of thoughts and comments - negative, positive, ranting, raving, laughing and sometimes crying too. But pretty much always passionate. One of the things I like about this place in cyberspace is that it is pretty open - threads about Buells, bikes in general, rides, roads, people, politics, etc etc, and you can throw a comment in any time you want, but you better be prepared to back it up too! Is there a lot of negative Buell stuff? Sure there is, but it's a message board - if someone has a problem with there Buell, this is where they'll post it. It's like talking to someone who works in a wreckers - "Oh, never buy % model, every one I've seen here has a stuffed bottom end...". There in the wreckers yard because they have a wrecked bottom end, all the good ones are out being ridden. It seems bad 'cause you only see the bad examples. Are there rants and raves about wheelies and high speeds? Sure, and look how many posts it generates! Isn't it great! It's like benchracing at the pub, without going to the pub. As far as I know, most places require you to be an adult to have a motorcycle license - as an adult you choose how you're going to ride, and I think most of the adults here know the difference between fast and stupid. Is there positive stuff here? Hell yeah! People helping out new Buellers like me to find the right bike (thanks Reepicheep, PaulinOz, Blackbelt, Henrik, Steveford, Bomber, M1Combat, Rocketman, Firemanjim, Blake among many others), or helping to get bikes back on the road, or people organising rides, or get togethers like Daves Sportbike event, or posting pics of bikes, events, people and sometimes just plain funny things. I suppose I'm just trying to say there's a heap of stuff on the BadWeb. If something annoys you too much, don't read it. Hats off to the administrators for making this site work so well lemonchili |

Group Hug? Seriously though. Lemonchili makes a great point, we're all passionate and accordingly we're going to fight tooth and nail to defend our "position" on things. Passion is good, conflict is good, lets be adult about it... I love Badweb... |

I must be a poor communicator... I love diverse viewpoints, hearing from people from all walks of life with all sorts of motorcycles and experiences. That was not the point of my first post. I don't log in and trash Ducatis because they aren't as comfortable as a GoldWing. In fact, I don't log in and trash anybody's anything. Most of us don't. What got my blood boiling was to read more outrageous BS about how awful 9Rs are. And as I said in my first post, I now regret my rant. For one thing, our resident R1 rider usually has a valid point to make about a comparably-priced motorcycle. For another, now people probably think I'm some sort of Buell zealot who hates all other bikes. All I'm speaking out against is the smug, condescending brush-off of a 9R as a sport bike. Really, any bike that you sit your butt atop and ride in a sporting manner is a "sportbike." |

I read this great editorial in a mag a few days ago about how motorcycles have become so task specific as opposed to the "all-around" machines they were up untill the early eighties. You really only had three classes, dirt, street, and choppers. Finding a balanced bike today I believe is difficult. I would be curious as to what people would pick as to being the most versitile bike on the market today. I ride a 2002 M2. I like the naked sportbike look and feel, yet it is comfortable enough to add on my saddlebags, wife, and lock the throttle for a 300 mile day. I have yet to try it in the dirt, but I am not planning on that anytime soon. God willing.... |

Koz - It's why I bought an X1. I can only have one bike, and it can do everything I want to do - commute, scratch, lightweight touring, and the pillion pegs aren't four feet off the ground so my wife likes it. IMHO the M2 is an even better all-rounder, but I really dig the alloy tail on the X1 Sshbsn - I get what you mean, cheers PS if I had the money I'd have an X1, an XB9R, an RC30, TZR250, an old Duc 750 Sport, a LeMans Mk1, a Tuono Fighter... |
