Folks,

Short form: assuming I have XB1200 2004-spec heads, which pistons/cylinders will work with them? XB9? XB12? What years?

I have a 1997 Buell S3 that I am desperately trying to get running, in more or less any form. Rear cylinder is fried; I did an Axtell 1250 conversion and the rear wrist pin came completely apart : (.

Back in 2005 I put XB1200 heads on, 2004 spec, with the right adapter to put those in a tube-frame Buell like mine. Bottom end is stock.

To say that I am desperate would be an understatement. As long as there are no valve clearance issues, screw it, I'll put a friggin' BLAST piston and cylinder back there for now, if they'll fit.

Help! What the hell will fit? I can find XB9 piston/cylinder kits all over the place, probably from upgrade projects...will those work?

I'm in Tucson AZ and need to get this thing rolling by Wednesday the 16th at the absolute latest.

From what i understand is that
the 04/06 xb9 and xb12 heads/cylinders are all the same ,only they use another pistons and have a different stroke

So you can use xb heads on tuber cylinders with tuber pistons but there has some machining work to be done to the xb heads.

xb 9/12 heads with xb 9/12 cylinders/pistons will work to ,but there is machining work involved to the xb pistons and probably the heads to
for compression ratio.

I think you have to be serious with doing such engine (work) otherwise the engine will not live very long.

All XB9 and XB12 cylinders are the same and will fit. XB12 pistons will give you about a 10:1 compression ratio. You can also use Sportster or Tube Frame Buell cylinders. They just have smaller cooling fins.
