OK, guys, I'm curious and think a poll like this might be useful. Please answer the following questions:

1. XB12 or 9
2. Miles on bike
3. How often have you checked your ignition timing (miles, at plug change, never, etc)
4. At what mileage(s) have you actually had to adjust your timing?

3. checked it twice around 18000 (it popped a lot when accelerating and braking ,replaced the intake seals and did some tweaks on the manifold ,retarded the ignition a little but almost the same) after changing the exhaust gaskets two weeks ago it went a lot quieter.
4.18000(it was not really necessary but had to try it)

Thought I had a timing problem, because of some pinging.
Checked checked and rechecked timing.
Found out I had a broken header (they were wrapped is why I didn't see it right off) after a spill.
Replaced header, no issues.
Really, there's no need to go there.

I'll do it someday when I have to freshen up the top end of the motor, and not likely before. Who screws with things not broken?

Checked it but didn't have to adjust when I bought it used.

Adjusted it after rebuilding the oil pump drive gear and top end.

Truth is this is not a difficult thing to check, if you have any concerns you should just plain check and see if the parameters are in the window without drilling the rivets. You've made enough posts on this that you must think there is an issue so just go through the check and make sure the timing mark lines up with the electronic "mark" and be done with it.

I absolutely don't think it's an issue with my bike, my bike has always run super. It's a maintenance item suggested at every 10000 that I noticed I missed while doing my 15000 maintenance. I thought it would be useful for a poll and I believe it was. Sounds like it's not a problem area if it's good from the factory. So I'll wait until 20000.....; )
