Hey guys, been a long time since I've been here. Hoping somebody can help me source just the ignition switch for my XB9R. All I need is the electrics, the lock is fine.

I seem to remember that a lot of the controls & switches were sourced from Yamaha or Ducati, but I may be in error.

Any help is appreciated. TIA

It may also be a Ford part, lots of stuff from the 85/86 mustang.

Thanks Greg, I googled some images of Mustang parts, doesn't appear to be close.

Yamaha looks like they have some that are similar. I may take a chance and email EBR & see if anyone might give some assistance.

It irks me that to replace a $30 switch I'm expected to fork over $110 for the entire assy to HD.

I'm certain it's just a wire that gave out from metal fatigue. : )

The electrical part definitely used to be available as a separate part - for the '06 & '09's that is C0152.1AD.

Whether or not that is still the case I don't know.

However, the wires are soldered to the rear of the switch so can be replaced / repaired readily:

The internal contacts can get intermittent and they can also be accessed cleaned successfully:

It is straight-forward to get the switch assembly out if you have a T45 security Torx on hand. The electrical body is held together with plastic tabs so some careful work with small screwdrivers is required.

Thank you Rays, I have resoldered one in the past. I agree, disassembly was a PITA.

I don't remember if I took it down this far though. If I go this route I'll be sure to clean the contacts while I'm at it.

Ok, I got a response from Erik yesterday. He said that he doesn't have access to the H-D parts anymore but thought they were sourced from Italy. I googled ignition switches for Aprilia and saw some amazing similarities.

I will likely end up clipping a few mm & resoldering. Apparently Aprilia, the BMW f650, and probably others have been having this problem since at least the late 90s.

Anyway, thought I'd pass on what I've learned in the hope that someone may eventually find a reliable source & not have to purchase an entire lock assembly in the future.

Thanks again guys, especially for the photos of it disassembled Rays.
