I'm currently trying to decide between a 2006 xb12x with 34,000 miles ($4,800) and a 2008 xb12x with 4,500 miles ($6,000).

I've researched the model differences, but I'm curious about he seat height. I'm 6'4" and really liked the tall seat of the 2006. Is the '08x (not xt) drastically different?

Also, the 2006 comes with the stock luggage which the 2008 didnt have stock.

Any purchase advice would be awesome! Thanks.

You can always get the taller seat later on ebay or trade for one. I recommend the 2008 bike. With 4500 miles its still like a new bike and there were significant changes between the 06 and 08 versions. Check out this page link for model year differences.

Nateba- the standard 06 seat is ~1.5 inches taller than the seats on later models. The taller seat was available as an accessory and will fit on any XB12X or XT year model. You can find the tall seats on ebay pretty regularly, so you can change the seat on the 08 if you decide to get it.

The 2008 has significant upgrades over the 2006- the engine has a larger crank pin and better oiling system and the forks have significantly increased steering lock. The 2006 is a fine bike but the 2008 is worth getting if the price is reasonable. You can probably find OEM luggage for it if you want that and there are (or at least were) a couple of aftermarket possibilities as well.

I have an '06 (so the tall original seat), I am 6'-4" and 36" inseam. Perfect.

However, the '08 updates and low mileage are attractive enough to look hard at that. I was thinking a very good price, but the luggage difference you mention makes that up (since luggage is expensive even aftermarket).

Make sure you can ride the '08 first. Some folks had some fueling concerns, low MPG, etc with the '08 updates, though the mechanical updates certainly look attractive, and the lower miles is nice.

As mentioned, look for a tall seat elsewhere (ebay, etc), as you and I are in the minority (wanting it tall) and many of the shorter folks put there tall stuff on the market.

Thanks for all the input. I'm planning on picking up the 2008 this weekend. I just sold my car and am looking for a dependable commuter. The low miles combined with the positive '08 changes made the more recent bike make the most sense.
