Has anybody modified a stock 12 can AND left the valve active???? Anybody with any ideas??? I have a semi-stock 9 can and my stock 12 can and I'm itchin' to cut and weld something!!!

Hey Deer, I spent a little time in the K.V. this morning and read that the Drummer actually has some packing material inside it. Have you heard the same thing? The 9 pipe I bought has the little rectangle cut out of the rear exit pipe section. I heard that it sounds good but loses some power/tq. Want a better sound but don't want to lose anything. Especially down low to mid where I use it the most. I think Kevin has a great pipe from all accounts but I just can't justify spending that much $ on a Drummer right now when I know the valve works so well and that has got me thinking about mod'n the pipe and using the valve.....................

And does anyone know if the 9 and the 12 pipe are the same internally with the exception of the valve????? And no, I don't expect Bubba to answer this question but I'm not starting a business here, I just want to save a little money so as not to off the Commander and CFO and sound like a V-twin...........

I'm sorry but I have to add this......
If the valve was the way to go then everyone would use it.....It just happens to work real well for the application that it was intended, and no I don't know everything but I have tried some of the most off the wall crap that some would never think of and it didn't work, but I had to try it... the two cans are not the same inside but the principle is still the same....hope this helps...if you want to try to save some money i don't blame you for trying something that you want to try.....hope you understand that I'm not talking out of the side of my leg here and by no means am I bashing anything or anyone...so in short just have fun!!!!

No, I totally understand. I think you guys make a great product and I haven't even seen or heard one in person!! Just a sound clip. There is one running around Dothan so I have to find him just for a listen. I'm sure you've spent tons of time and effort to come up with what you have. I respect that. I'm a fab'er myself. In fact I'm making two bumpers for a couple customers this weekend. (Jeep fanatic also) Like I said, I'm just trying to keep the wife just mildly irritated instead of really mad!! I'm in no way trying to steal any of your customers at all. I just like doing things myself and save money in the long run. In all actuality, I will end up sending you the 9 muffler I'm sure. Just tossing a few questions out there to see if it's worth my time and frustration. I can dyno stuff at the tune of $45 an hour but that takes time and trips to Dothan, etc. Thanks for your response Kevin. I say again- just trying to save a little $$$$ and not start a business. I think you guys are doing a great job. Not just with your product but with your honesty and customer service. Keep up the great work........Odie

My goal as well, the only reason I don't have a Drummer.
Odie, if you ever want to come over to the Atlanta area (ya'll are welcome at my house), there are two Drummers in our group, one on a 12 and one on a 9. They sound awesome, and from the grins I've seen, they're satisfied customers.
I have also been looking into exhaust mods that I can pull off myself.

Yes, new "Thruxton" is the right description. Don't forget the quotes. The only real Thruxton is a Velocette, which was a great motorcycle in it's time. Set the 24 hour speed record in the early 60's, and it was a 500 single. Incredibly difficult to maintain, but a superb motorcycle to ride.

Hey Glitch, I will, at some point ride on over and see ya'll over there in Hotlanta. A guy that works with me was supposed to go ride with all the 3%er's but he had to go to weekend drill or something. You guys are the closest to me here in East LA as far as Buells go. I might see one every other week or so down here. Which, really, is fine by me. I figure you guys are about 2.5 hours away with good traffic. Maybe I could trailer up and spend the weekend. Someday though.....promise.

Ya'll will always be welcome, so any time is a good time.
Although I like having a different bike from most, sometimes it's cool to ride up in force to bike night. There have been a few time where we out numbered any other bike there.

At least two of the Japanese sport bike manufacturers are using similar valves to alter exhaust tract characteristics for optimum performance across the entire rev range.

Anonymous, the 24hr speed record of '61 you mention was set by a Venom. From my readings the Velocette Thruxton was produced from 1965-1970. The Triumph Thruxton was produced from 1964-1967. (though I have also seen '64-'66 & '65-'69 for the Triumph)

I think what kevin meant was that it is for specific applications because it ain't on all bikes.

I remember erik answering this about the 9's he said they got what they wanted in terms of power curve without the valve.

But it does work real well inside a govt. issue pipe.

Odie, I live just 20 miles from where the center of Charley made landfall. Fortunately for me, the storm made a slight turn to the north east up through Charlotte Harbor as it was on a dead track straight at Venice.

Earlier when it was off the coast near Naples/Ft. Myers as a Cat 2 I was concerned (Last year I had a new 150mph roof put on, braced insulated garage door, and had all my corrugated hurricane shutters screwed in tight) but when it suddenly became a Cat 4 with sustained winds of 145mph and heading straight for me I was worried.

The city of Venice got very lucky this time, the high winds and storm surge were all on the south and east side of the storm, We were 20 miles to the west and felt the effects similar to an average tropical storm.

My Wife's parents stayed with us as they live in a Mfg. home (mobile and mfg. homes were evacuated) and they recall the last hurricane to hit this area in 1960, hurricane Donna. My wife, then age 7, recalls it as well.

I took the bikes out for a ride this morning, a beautiful sunny Florida morning. It's hard to believe the level of destruction just a few miles away. Thanks for the concern.
