You could probably get about $300-400 out of the accessories sold separately. That would help fund the loan payoff. I'll give you $75 for the touring seat. Post the size of the jacket, gloves and helmet and maybe some people will make instant offers. I know of someone looking for side bags like that.

Good luck. Based on my experience selling an 03 XB9S, you would be very lucky to get $6000 for it. Unless you happen to live in area where Buells are popular and well supported by a local dealership, the resale value of Buells is even worse than most other bikes... all of which depreciate heavily the first year.

Value of Buells even worse than most....

Just got off Ebay ( wife lookin for a starter bike ) and I saw quite a few late model sports bikes for 3000 and less, I'mm talkin 1000 cc hondas, yamaha's nice lookin bikes too ( with lower mileage than the Buell in question )
Good luck with the loan assumption

Lots of scams on ebay now days, plus a lot of those prices havent met the sellers reserve yet.

You would be extremely lucky to find a 600cc sportbike on ebay for $3000.

BTW, you dont actually believe anyone is going to sell a CBR1000RR for $3500 do you?

Hmmm, wanna buy a 2001 X1 with 11,000 miles on it? Banke undertail, millinieum pegs, crossroad bars, white bros exhaust, crg mirrors, race ecm, spare set of bodywork included, Buell pegasus seat, etc etc. Over $13,000 invested. You can have it for $6000.

Sure, who would'nt. Thats just the point, so they pull the auction cause it doesn't bring the $$$. Thus , it is not that great a resale now, is it....

"Like 7500, but I don't have the cash to take any greater of a hit on it. I might just keep the bike and tell her I can't sell it. But she will be giving me crap on a regular basis to get rid of it. I would rather just move it now if I can, before I put any more miles on "

You have bigger issues than the selling price of the bike. Can your wife understand that reality that you may not be able to make a person buy the bike at a price they don't want to pay.

Reality 101.

The bike will sell at the "market" price. That is, what it is.

They pulled the auction because its a scam. Not because it didnt bring in any money.

Im serious too, you want to buy that X1?

Psst...
Buy a motorcycle to ride.
Buy motorcycle stock for an investment.

Keep the bike. Tell the Mrs. that it gets 60+ MPG highway, and with gas prices being what they are in CA, keeping the bike is the financially responsible thing to do for your family. : )

Not a good start to a marriage. Did you have the bike before you got married?

Wish you all the best in selling the bike and condolences concerning your future. LOL

Not to worry, you will make the transitions as long as you want to. Toys come and go. Some just don't mesh well with a new relationship and responsibilities. Just might be the best thing for you. Could open up a whole new world of opportunities.

Best regards!

I could get into all sorts of trouble on this thread, so I won't. Fst_tyms, your life, your wife, your choice in what you do. The value of a bike is based on two things: Thing1 = what the current owner is willing to sell it for; Thing2 = what a potential buyer is willing to buy it for. Until 1 = 2 there is no sale. Good luck in your marriage, some things take time, some emotions are based more on emotions than on facts. A woman in this area was just killed in a car collision, tapped from the rear on the freeway, she was driving an SUV, wearing her seatbelt, driving prudently, did a flip into an overpass support post and died instantly, life ends too soon sometimes regardless of what or how you drive or ride. Take care, have a good life, and may your marriage be mutually blessed.

Chainsaw,
If it is a "stock motorcycle" can it then be called an investment????? ; )
Okay, I'm out of this thread.

The bike you are on your own with.

Dealership consignment or voluntary repo, one is slow, the other is costly over time.

Trade it in on a car, then sell the car. The indirect swap/sale for something more marketable to someone looking at book value as opposed to perceived market value is always an indirect option.

I'd suggest trading it off for a boat but the used boat market is softer than the used Buell market. Sorry.

Ooooo... he called you a hick. : D

You are right though, no biker would dump his bike at the request of a woman, wife or otherwise.

I hope he sells it quick for the price he's asking, maybe mine will be worth around $5500 when I get around to selling it (if I decide to sell it).

If my wife told me it was her or the bike. I would ask her what she wanted packed up first. But she is even more into bikes than I am.

Fst_tyms: Maybe some of the comments were getting on your nerves. But face it, there's lot's of experienced advice buried in there. Vehicles depreciate FAST. Convince the fine woman that the two grand financial loss compared to the fun you'll have by keeping it for a couple of years doesn't make much sense. I don't agree with Easyflier that keeping or not keeping the bike defines whether or not you're a biker, but once it's gone it's really hard to get back.
Last but not least, the "dumb hick" isn't upside down on a bike and making hollow threats to someone more than twice his age!!!
Lighten up and live life.

Looking at his listed occupation of videogame producer you'd think there was an angle there to hang onto the bike - it's a creative research tool.

Easy Rider - 1st off, that was not a hollow threat. If he said that to my face he would get knocked the out, no matter how old he is. that was just plain RUDE!

Mikej - I am not trying to start anything, I posted this for help to sell, no for everyone lame commentary about my wife or my life.

Everyone - I have lowered the selling price. Anyone serious about buying the bike, let me know. Oh and by the way, I am a biker through and through. I will be riding again, just not for the moment. At least not o commute to work through traffic like I do. I not only scares her, it is pretty crazy for me too. I come home like a big ball of stress. I do need to chill. I would like to have a bike for the weekends, but it won't be this one. Will most likely be something older and less expensive just to rip through the canyons on the weekend.
