I'm getting some work done to my 05 xb9r heads and I'm thinking about putting a xb12r header back on to it will this help the motor or hinder it

It will move the power band higher in the rpm range. If you are going to do this, you should also consider having the throttle body bored or switch to the 12TB. Before switching to the 12TB, check the diameter of your current throttle body, somewhere along the line I'm pretty sure they started using the same diameter for both engines.

Also to see the best gains from each of these mods. you will need to have a muffler that is less restrictive than stock.

Also if you are going to have an extra header for a short time, have an O2 bung welded into the front header, this will make tuning more precise. Either keep an extra O2 installed or get a plug for the normal times when you are not tuning.

You could always have one built for you.

The TB's are different all the way through. the only change was the 2003 had a different version, but it was the same diameter.

The header is $520 bare, it can be polished as shown or high temp powder coated in pretty much any color for an extra $80. The one in the pic is just a prototype, the front header will change slightly from it's current configuration.

A similar one such as the free spirit's one runs anywhere from $750-900 plus shipping from europe.

Btw, my intent with this design is to make it easier to replace just one piece of it rather than the whole thing if you low-side and mash in the outer pipe. This of course assumes that nothing else gets damaged in the process. Just need to figure out what each piece costs to make, then settle on a price to sell at.

Great looking pipe...

since Microns are pretty hard to come by, i may be interested in getting one of these for the 1050 once its back together..

You're not helping!

How much of a difference would it make over the stock headers on an XB9 with the Buell Race Exhaust? I already have the race ECU installed.

Without any tuning, probably a small loss on the bottom end, but gains in the mid and upper rpm ranges, assuming an otherwise stock engine with no mods. Bigger bore kit and mods, definitely a power gain, but I don't know how much. Either way, I'd recommend doing tuning to it.
You can run even larger header sizes, but again, the low end loss will be even worse unless you build the motor.

These have sensor bungs on both, so tuning each cylinder will be easier. I just finished and shipped out 3 systems last night, so I might get some time this weekend to mess with mine some more. My boy is chomping at the bit pretty bad, he wants to hear it, ride it, etc.

And those will bolt up to the race exhaust?

The advantage is the equal lengths, correct?

<.< Do not need more parts...

See the image I posted earlier, that's a stock xb12 muffler, so yes, the race pipe will fit also.

As far as performance goes, it's pretty much a toss-up, I haven't seen any empirical data to suggest that equal length is better or worse, but it was easier to build it like this instead of a direct copy of a 12 header. Getting tighter radius bends are considerably more expensive.

Got a set of cans mostly done for it now. Still needs packed and riveted together yet, as well as the front tab hanger.
