Bought my first Buell on Aug 16th. It is a 2008 XB12r with 5600 miles on the clock. The previous owner didnt ride it much- some 70 miles in the last year.

It ran kinda goofy and the gas smelled funky, so when I got it home I managed to drain about a gallon and a half of greenish gasoline from the bike! An oil change, some fresh 93 octane, a healthy dose of Seafoam and 70 miles later and it is much happier!

The bike seems to be cold natured, it will hardly pull itself for the first few minutes of riding- I am sure this has been covered before, but is this normal? Once warmed up it runs great.

With 5600 miles on it and 4 years, does anybody see a need to change fork oil? Other suggested maintenance? The P.O. did the primary oil in November of '11 and had a Harley dealer put spark plugs in it, the bike has hardly been used since then.

Yeah, with any air cooled machine, they need some warm up first.
Warming it up first before a ride will also prevent gaskets giving up and leaking.

+1 to Glitch.

You have just joined the worst crack-like-addiction(Buell)club around, no kidding, you're gonna get hooked. LOL

On the forks, nope, check at 10k. Best bet is to buy the Buell Bible commonly known as the service manual. If you are mechanically inclined I highly suggest you do your own maintenance. Most HD shops just don't "Get It" and will screw you with lack of knowledge or love for the Buell. These are fairly simple machines and not hard to service.

Anyway, welcome to BadWeb.

Thanks for the feedback! I will leave the forks alone- the oil change doesn't look like a fun job anyway.

You are right Luxor, I will be doing all of my own work. The only thing I have ever taken a bike in to a shop for was tires, I don't own a tire machine!

Initial impression of this bike is very good, and at 115lbs lighter than my GSF1200 it feels pretty nimble too!

Double check the air pressure and your suspension settings, can change the whole feel of the bike good OR bad. Welcome to the club!
