Sure wish there was a formal sport-touring tire review somewhere that had mileage as a primary focus. My Ulysses is showing just over 12K on the odo, and it's well into its 4th set of tires (stockers, Pirelli Angels, PR2s and PR3s). I was figuring on getting 8, maybe 9K on the last set of PR2s, and was shocked to realize I'd worn it down to the cord after not much more than 3K! I ride briskly in the mountains a lot, but I'm not seriously fast and I don't slide tires or do wheelies or stoppies. Now I'm looking at the rear PR3 and wondering if it'd be OK for my planned 1K ride this weekend? I'd read that the BT-023s were better than average for mileage, but I see contradicting stories here and there. There's a GT version of the 023s for heavier bikes, but I don't know if that would improve mileage. I get a lot better mileage out of the Avon Cobras on my thousand pound Goldwing---I'd spoon those on the Uly if they made them in the right sizes. Some folk report well over 10K on their sport-touring tires----I guess the asphalt must be 'softer' where they ride... | ||

When i had my 12R Pilot Road originals usually got me 8-10k for a rear tire, and 20k for the front. They still have them for sale on jakewilson.com | ||

I hate to say it, but if you are questioning the tire it's usually better to just replace it, especially considering a big ride. Believe it or not, but it looks like I'm going to get 3000 out of my rear pilot power and twice that out of the front, might even get closer to 4000 out of the rear. That said it seems to be wearing faster since my rebuild so the power pulses might be eating at it more than previous. | ||

BT-016's, I get 7k+ out of the rear on an 1125. Yeah, it's flat as a pancake across the center when I get done with it, but I commute a lot. The BT-s20 is supposed to be the 016's replacement, so I'd suggest looking at that one. Roads must be very different in some places. I put a set of BT-016 on my XB-12 and at 3,200 the rear is done. BUT they are some of the best handling tires I have ever run. Honestly, no tire has lasted me much more than that (PP, Q2, Corsa III). | ||

That's odd....I have about 5500 on my PR2s, and they look almost new! I'm pretty hard on them too... | ||

I managed 20K miles from a set of PR2s. The current set on my Sprint ST are almost used up at 14K. That includes a trip from IL to CA that had a lot of expressway riding though, and they are getting squared off in the center. When I got 20K on a set on the XB I had a good mix of commuting and trips down to TN/NC area where I abused the sides quite a bit more. That set was worn pretty evenly across the entire tread, with an odd hump at the transition between compounds. I'm guessing you are grinding the sides off and have good tread in the center if you are only getting 3K miles. If so lucky you! Go with a less expensive single compound and enjoy the ride! If you are managing to wear the center that fast, you must be really abusing those poor things. | ||

I am quite sure the mileage will not be great, but I ordered an S20 rear tire. The BT-016 front is still in good shape, nice and sticky. A friend runs the '23s on his Uly and rides it pretty hard. He likes them. | ||

I've never got less than 8,000 miles per set of tires. All were sport/touring. Ive tried Dunlops,Bridgestone,Pirelli and Continental. I'll be sticking with Pirelli. BY far the best tire IMHO. | ||

I finally got around to changing the tires. Went ahead with S-20's on both ends. I put a few miles on them this morning before the mini-vans and "Lance Armstrongs" came out to clutter the best roads. It is obvious that the Bridgestone engineers decided to create the best street tires ever for a Buell XB. These are the best tires I have ever had on my Buell. The bike feels 50 pounds lighter in turns. Great feedback and dead neutral steering. Very confidence inspiring. Thanks for the tip, Dean! | ||

currently running conti motion. The Pirellis I had were sport touring. I believe they were called Diablo strada which were replaced with by the Angels. I opted for the Conti's because of a Local sale. I like the mileage and feel of the Pirellis best. | ||

I run shinko Apex's now, and love the hell out of them. 2,000 miles to the dot. haha. |
