I would think that POR would more resemble a gas tank type liner...which they also produce. Im sure that would work.

But regular old "hight heat" paint..the kind you see on the shelf at ace hardware sucks.

Agreed Dyna - I coated the four to one header on my IL4 with the stuff and it didn't last 1000 miles.

Well to each his own, on that one. I have three people i can name off hand that havent had any problems. I do know in order for it to work right u do need to prep it like u are painting with high quality paint such as striping the metal and making sure no oils are present etc. etc. not the stuff u buy at ace hardware.

I immediately thought about it for my XB, as I had my race bikes wrapped, and makes them a little louder I think (might be my imagination) and looks cool, and was done on the SV for performance (whether it did a lot I don't know) but the reason I have not on the XB is heat worries. If I am keeping the heat in, where is it going? Out the pipe or back up the metal into the motor? I was wary of doing anything that I thought might hamper this bikes ability to cool -

Battleblue,
Those pipes were hell getting off without rotating the engine. If I were to do it again I would spend the extra time doing that. I got the stock paint so I have to fix that nice deep scratch on the mount.

If anyone is thinking about coating there headers, I really recommend it.

1. I think it gives the bike a different sound, when I first got them on the bike sounded awesome when it would wind up in 1st gear.
2. I don't feel the same amount of heat coming off the headers while I am riding.
3. They look AWESOME!

Out the pipe or back up the metal into the motor?
Out the end of the pipe.
By keeping the heat in the pipe it speeds up the gases out the exit.
At least that's what they say.

I found the Jet Hot black coating made little to know difference. Header wrap works. Looks good on my Cyclone.

My father has Jet Hot 2000 on the headers on his Experimental Aircraft (Vans RV6A). He has reported noticeable reductions in temperature in the engine compartment.

Once again, I'm with you Glitch. I like the bluing that occurs on pipes. It's all about that machinery and physics thing......My Wideglide has drag pipes on it and all the losers (with $25,000 Heritages') look at it and go eeuuwwwww! Get some new pipes! I tell them I love the look of it and they think I'm stupid or something. I've been monitoring the movement of the discoloring of my 12S pipes the more I ride it. Every few days it gets further and further down the line. Lazy's pipes look real sweet though.............

It's not a matter of looks to me. I was at Deals Gap last week and riding hard, I was sick of a hot a**, at least my own, and the fact that the frame and wiring near the rear cyl. head where getting a little too warm for my liking. Ordered the black wrap and giving it a try.

I'm thinking I've seen some of the tube frame Buells with blue header pipes. Did those come stock and/or is that the JetHot type coating???

The blue pipes you've seen on the X1 are stock or at least they were offered as an extra, don't know which. Either way it's Buell.

I'd say ceramic coating is the way to go - wrapping always has problems long term - VW drags have shown that - heat stress, etc.
