"I've got some really great news..."

Actually, a question for those who have their cycles insured by Geico: Are you satisfied with Geico? How well do they handle claims? Are renewal rates reasonable?

They just quoted me a policy 15% less than Dairyland for my '03 XB9, and 33% less than Progressive, who rates the XB12 and XB9 the same.

I didn't put in $$ figures because each state seems to have their own dartboard (actuarial tables) at which to place their rates.

They won't carry my bike, checked last summer, said they won't do performance bikes, only cruisers. May be a state thing or things may have changed, I hope so, and here's why.
Last summer I broke Ann's car.
They had a tow truck there before the police had rapped everything up.
The next morning they had an adjuster at my house and wrote a check.
Sent the car over to one of the shops they recommended.
Had the car back within the same week.
Geico saved my bacon big time with Ann, polite, helpfull, and knowedgeable. Good folk to work with, hopefully you won't have to work with them with a claim though.

I have had geico for 5 years on my auto and just switched on my moto... about the same savings could not believe it. I have not yet need to make any claims on either one yet... but renewals have been easy

Never tried Geico...

Progressive wanted over $1,500 for the xb9s. State Farm quoted me $275/year, as long as I put my Truck on the policy too (which I did because it was also cheaper than Progressive).

I would take a look at State Farm.

It's been years since I had them, But when I took out a deer w/ my last bike, it was insured through GEICO, but was actually covered thru some other co. It was handled well, I guess. They gave me a check, covered all the extras including my helmet.

Geico woouldn't cover me in Ga as well as Farm Bureau. Progressive quoted me $1100 for the year and when I got the policy it as $2500! Said they used the wrong code of the lightning. I have also hear really bad things about Dairyland. They will not pay claims. I was told by several people to stay away. I pay $900 for mine with AMH (American Modern Home). Be careful and shop around. You shouldn't pay more than 1200 depending on state.

I have American Family here in Wisconsin. Out of curiosity I ran a quote through Geico. Geico wanted $1200 a year compared to the $400 a year that American Family charges me for the same coverage.

My girlfriend was rear ended by a drunk driver. She spend the night in the emergency room. The first statement from Gieco was If you wave PIP we will start procesing your claim right away. My girlfriend asked me what it was and I said say no. They sent here the same question in letter form and would not stop pressuring her to wave it. We had to enlist a lawyer for an accident that was 100% not her fault. So we could get help from her insurance company. I will never use Gieco. I will say that I have heard that they are great as long as the accidents are injury free.

BTW
PIP is insurance you pay for so you get help with medical bill even when the accident is not your fault.

Black Sunshine -
I have the same insurance company.
I pay 1600 a year for my XB9S.

That was the cheapest I found.
Progressive and Geiko both wanted over 4k each.
I live in texas.

I have a racing ticket on my record from when I owned a Camaro Z28.

I had Geico for my '03 xb9r and was happy with their rates. Got into a little fender bender and they paid quickly and without complaint.

BUT, when it was time to renew, they raised my rate by about $100 more than what they paid out on my claim.

I went with HD insurance after that.

Maybe I should shop around, I'm 24 and pay $1250 a year for my 2003 XB9S with $1000 deductible. Hopefully my rate will go down, in October 2 speeding tickets and 1 totaled truck go off my record. Which means I'll only have 3 speeding tickets still on my record. I'll also turn 25 in February so next summer should be a bunch cheaper. O progressive insured my BUell as a cruiser, I can'r imagine what my rates would be if I was riding a "sportbike"

O forgot to mention I am in Wisconsin. And the totalled truck on my record is a claim I never could get fixed, A friend of mine wrecked my $10,000 Chevy and it counted on my insurance record. Bummer but it'll be gone in a couple months. Funny, when that truck was wrecked state farm dropped my whole family because I lived in the same household with them. My parents were'nt happy.

Here in Maryland, I just switched from Progressive to Cycleguard. This was a TOTAL shock for me that Geico could provide better rates. I shopped around too. My folks have had GEICO for their cars for years. Geico could not come close to Allstate for my auto coverage though.

Austinrider...I only have 1 speeding ticket. I think that is why mine is $900.

It seems you are going to find a lot of different #s across the board. Bottom line is that if you are satisfied with your coverage and price then whose to say which one is the best.

I know price is important for most people but when it comes time to use that expensive insurance it is a good feeling to have a really good insurance company behind you. I used Metropolitan for about 7 years and they were great. After I became an officer I have used USAA ever since and they are one of the very top rated insurers in the country. If your mom or dad or even yourself now, as they have opened it up to enlisted people, were ever in the military you are eligible. USAA is sometimes a tad higher but you CANNOT beat the service.

Quick update: State Farm is now the lowest quote I've got on the XB9S, they beat Geico by $45/year. Progressive and Geico are about the same for my Harley FLHS, about $200/year.

Each state is different and we don't all have the same coverage nor age nor driving record nor ...

My liability is 100/300/50 and I rejected both underinsured motorist/property. $250 deductible for comp and collision.

As it stands now, with a couple more quotes to get, I'll probably go with State Farm for the Buell and stay with Progressive for the Harley.

I'm chicken.

I still get all the coverage I can get. Frankly, it's "da hood".

My riding partner, who rides to work everyday and generally about 1K/wk, carries the least (he also has 7 bikes on the policy) he can get, which as I recall is just basic liability. Somebody steals the Hayabusa or Bandit 1200 (each with more than $5K of engine work) and he's SOL.

I'm not set up to gamble like that.

Henrik, any idea on who you'd use for a new XB?

I just switched from Progressive - they must have gotten fat'n lazy with all the AMA support they're getting; they wanted to charge me as much to insure the XB and they were charging me for the SV and the S2 bumping my policy to about $3400/year.

I contacted K&K brokers in SI and they got me more coverage (including un/under insured ; )) for near half the price. Can't remember the company but will get you K&K's phone #

I sense opportunity.

I have a Buell sitting on the charger in the basement that hasn't been insured in 3 years. What say we get together, your garage or my basement, dress in full kit and sit atop our Buells making noises!

Heck...we could race!

I take it that would be a closed basement course you would be racing in. Let's ride safe now, I know of a time in the Great Smoky Mountains two fellas (well know to ya'll) that started a friendly race in the basement, didn't turn out too well, remind me to tell you some time.

I have Allstate, with 100/300/50 liability limits, multi-car and good driver discounts, and the XB9S is $820 per year with $1000 comp and collision deductibles. My record is clean from 09/96 (but I'll probably get a ticket tomorrow now that I've written that).

However, Spring 03 I was hit head on by a guy that blew 0.18 (or 0.018 depending on the units) an hour after the wreck. I was in a Chevy Cavalier rental with 700 miles on it... which was totalled. Fortunately, my passenger and I walked away with minor injuries (both belted w/airbag deployment). In the state where this occurred, you only have to carry $10K liability to be legal... which is of course all he had. Since I declined CDW/LDW at time of rental, and the loss claim was $15K, my own auto policy had to make up the difference. The claims office where the accident occurred drug their feet for a while, but I got my agent on it and was resolved shortly thereafter. My rates have remained unchanged since through two renewals.

When I was bike shopping my insurance agent was engaged before test rides began. The following info is from him, and I do not know what of this is company policy vs. state law, but this is it: In NC the liability rates are determined solely by driver experience/record. For bike comp/collision rates, it's determined by displacement and dollar value... no distinction is made for type/style of bike. Meaning that a 1000cc Buell rates the same as a 1000cc Ducati or 1000cc cruiser of some sort, assuming they have the same cost/value. Where make/model comes into play is what's blacklisted by underwriting. For example, in my county Allstate will not write an Aprilla no matter how long you've been a customer and how spotless your record is. A few other models were mentioned that are judgement calls by the agent and/or underwriting (length/value of customer relationship and claims history being the primary considerations), and the remaining makes/models that they'll write even on new customers, which includes all Buells.

When shopping I was looking to have all vehicles on the same policy (or linked policies). Geico and Allstate came in dead even.. with Geico being lower on the cars but higher on the bike by the same amount vs. Allstate. If I were willing to split across insurers, I'm pretty sure I could do better on the bike, but throwing the car, van, and bike in the mix together no one could beat what I currently have. Which actually surprised me, because I assumed I'd be switching insurers from a national to regional one to keep my premiums sane.
