why is it when I have to restart the engine again after a few minutes the engine won't turn over and it gradually got worse at first it would just have that starting sound but the engine won't turn over but now it got worse when ever I start it up it would sound like the engine would just blow. Is anyone else having the same problem that I have. I was thinking of bringing it to the dealer but it would take a while for them to give my baby back. Can anyone advice me what to do? | ||

Are you saying that when warm the engine won't turn at all when the starter button is pressed? Or are you saying the engine turns but won't start up? I know mine is a bit hard to start if I give it any gas when warm which I found out quick. If I give mine a little gas when cold she starts good and takes a little longer if I don't. However if I give it any gas at all when warm, it sort of stumbles and is either hard to start or she won't run right for a few seconds until I clear it out a little with a throttle wack. If the starter is turning the engine with good speed then the battery should be fine. Otherwise I would check the following in order: Battery (make sure starter is getting good power) Plugs TPS Timing | ||

What Matt said. Do not give it any gas when starting - it's FI and unnecessary. You could have plugs that are gapped wrong or on the edge of being fouled. | ||

Yeah, don't give it gas during startup. A no no on fuel injected engines. | ||

it starts when I give it a gas but if I don't the engine would not even turn over and it would also have this nasty sound like a goat is being choke even my friends that I ride with said that it doesn't sound right and one jump up when I tried to start it. It's really embarrassing and disappointing | ||

Hmmm, I'm probably way off base here but... When I first got my 12 I found that I need to make sure to place a good deal of pressure on the starter button. Not to make it work, but because as soon as the engine would start turning over it would vibrate the bike just enough so that it would pull the starter button just far enough away from my finger that it would disengage for just a little bit and would then re-engage. Sometimes it would do it a couple times before I either let it go or pushed it harder. I don't know what a choking goat sounds like but I can't imagine this was too far off. | ||

I know this much it's not the starter button mine has contacts everytime and that noise when I start it makes me worried I know that one day the bike won't even start anymore | ||

Are you talking about the whine you get from the fuel pump before you hit the starter button? My fuel pump squeals like a stuck pig! Sometimes if I don't let it finish it's complaining before I hit my starter button, the bike won't start. Maybe you're just not waiting long enough....try waiting for the whining to stop and your idiot lights to cycle through before hit your starter button. | ||

I think the owner's manual tells you to wait until the check engine light goes out before starting. The computer is going through it's routine diagnostic at that time. I've had starters on my cars that are on their way out and they sounded pretty gravelly during startup. They also got worse with engine heat. This is called "heat soak". Sometimes, when hot, they would make grinding, gravelly sounds and then qive up. |
