Hey Guys, I am going to be replacing the clutch cable this next week (waiting on the part) is there any hints or advise you can lend? This will be the first time doing this repair for me. Thanks.

you too huh...mine broke last week. pretty easy to do make sure you get the O-ring that goes in the case as well ..its all pretty straight forward, just bee careful when taking the cable end out of the clutch mechanism not to drop that piece inside the cover...

And when putting the new cable into the primary case..do not, I repeat DO NOT!! overtorque it. That part of the cable will snap in half when you put about 6 ft lbs on it. Just snug it up & leave it.

Broke mine a couple of weeks ago, lasted 18K miles. As luck would have it, only a couple of blocks from work. Found out that only one dealer in the San Francisco Bay area had one in stock.

Pay attention to how the old one was ran up to the lever. Had to take mine off twice and rerun the cable. The throttle cable goes inside the clutch cable next to the triple clamp. The Service Manual doesn't show a good picture after you have taken out the broken one.

Got a question regarding the clutch cable.

I had a lot of slack in the handle, so using the clutch cable adjuster, I tightened it, leaving about 1/16" gap(one penny, two pennies = 1/8"; ) between clutch handle and Ferrule. I didn't open primary cover and adjust anything there. Is this correct? Do I need to adjust anything in the primary yet? Bike has 800 miles and I had a butt-load of slack, between 1/4" and 1/2".

I checked it out, very short ride, seems to respond fine.
