Hi,
I just got my rt1 muffler and tried to put it on but something looks like wrong because it looks like the s-bend tube is too short so the muffler does not clear the oil pan under the motor. I would REALLY appreciate if someone could send me a picture of the area where the s-bend tube meets the headers and the muffler. I got the xb12ss.

Thanks a lot
Can't wait to ride!!

There isn't any s-tube, it is more like a j-tube. Maybe you are trying to put it on backwards?

The smaller end slides inside the Jardine pipe.

This is the RT-1.

Sorry for the name I gave for the s-bend tube, it's just the way they call it in the instructions. I have put the side with the small cuts in the tube on the headers side.

For the oil pan, I mean the thing under the engine, it's not technically an oil pan but it is somehow a pan lol.

After looking at the bended tube, I'm wondering if maybe you only have to push the bended tube half way thru the headers.

If you guys don't know what I mean, I'll try to take some pics of the thing!

Thanks for the help!

the problem is the back bracket that is screwed to the back of the engine, you probably have it on backwards, you want to mount it so the forces the muffler down away from the engine cases.

I have found some pics on the internet of the mounting position of everything and I had it good... I think that the previous owner had cut a part(about 3/4 inch) of the headers so the custom exhaust the bike had would fit.

Does anybody know how long the flange at the end of the headers should be?

probably I will sold it rather than buying a new headers set.

I will provide pictures tomorrow to show the problem!

Thanks

Unless they have changed, that "J" pipe isn't from a Jardine.

That actually looks like it's a different header than stock. I don't recall ever seeing one with the spring hook welded on it.

#1 do not tighten front tube clamp until all mounting bolts have been tightened.

#2 that front J tube does not look like the Jardine that I have, should be made from stainless.

#3 I also agree that the header does not look like it is stock, I'm wondering if you have some sort of Franken-exhaust made up out of pieces from the reject bin.

From what I see on Sifo's pictures, The jardine j-pipe looks the same as mine and it is made from stainless steel.

For the #3 from greg_e, I'm wondering too! I think the previous owner had cut maybe 3\4 inch of the end of the headers.

By the way, I am pretty sure that the headers are original because they look the same and probably that the little hangers where welded on the original pipe.

I will probably weld it to the headers so I'm sure it will not leak...

Weld an extension onto the header, it's 2" OD stainless. I wouldn't weld the j-pipe to the header.

Yeah that a good idea from D_adams, I will probably do that. Thanks for the input.

OK, now I have removed the headers from the bike and I would like to know if somebody knows the length I am supposed to have between the welding where the 2 tubes merge into one and the end of the pipe. I have about 4.6 inches and it seems to me that I'm missing maybe about 1.25-1.5 inch. Can someone please give me this info so I can weld the good stock length..

Thanks guys

I checked the 2 I have here, one is 5.5" and the other is 5.875" measured at the center of the merge to the end of the 2" outlet.

This one is off of an 03 xb12, it's different stainless apparently. It's also a little shorter.
