Hey all! Just wondering who has changed out their XB9/12S handlebars for a more aggressive bend? The stockers are comfortable, but I would like something with a little less bend and sweep. Any suggestions? What do you like about your swap? Where did you get them?

Same here (except mine were O'Neals)...CR250 motocross bars. $19.95 and you can't go wrong.

Same, but Pro Taper seven eighth extra wide bars... Heaps more leverage and control. Just a bit of reorganising to get the clutch and throttle cables to sit right. If you cut corners you will fond the throttle lifting when you have it at full lock. But i got mine to work with the extra wides, so any of the others should be no problem.

I did the Crossroads Performance bars for around $300. I'm 6'3" and like them very much. The suspension needed quite a bit of adjustments to get the bike correct again though.

What else do you have to do to get the Pro Taper bars to fit? Isn't the diameter of the bar (Pro Taper) larger than stock?

I've got the crossroads bars on the Shop XB9S. It is a definite improvement over the stock bars, and transforms the bike for the better. I don't feel like I'm sitting straight up with my hands in my knees now. And the x-roads bars are well made and look cleaner on an XB than they did on the tubers.

That said, I personally think they are a little too aggressive for the Lightning. They are about the same position as the Firebolt with Helibars, except a little wider. I'm going to chop 3/4" off of their length and see what that does.

I like how far forward they move the bars, but my biggest complaint is that they are angled down a little too far. Crossroads uses those same bars on other Buells, and the down angle is necessary on the tuber buells because the bars start higher relative to the seat. On the XB-S, I think it lowers the bars too much. A couple other customers have told me the same. My guess is that most folks that would want the seating position that aggressively forward would have bought a firebolt to begin with.

I've talked to Crossroads about it. If any other customers have them and have an opinion, I'd like to hear it. The person I spoke to at Crossroads seemed to indicate that they might change the down angle if there were enough indications that's what the customers generally want.

The pro taper bars are 7/8th inch diameter. Thats why they are badged Seven Eighth. Same diameter as your stock ones. You can shorten them to suit you. I got extra wide and left them that long.

They are just a motoX bar. Renthals are the same. I come from Super Moto bikes so I love them. Get new grips 'cos the factory ones are glued on and i couldn't be bothered dicking around. You need the left grip off to get the clutch lever off.

I second the motion for a change in angle, and perhaps the length, of the crossroads bars. Chop ~1/2" off the end of each "clip-on", and "flatten" the horizontal angle ~2-4 degrees. They could do this without changing the center piece to which the bar ends mount, thus enabling those of us who already purchased the entire kit to simply purchase/install the ends.

Just a thought.

I don't really care for the moto-cross/dirt-bike style cross bar on some of the aftermarket bars. I prefer a cleaner set up with a little less rise and pull back. Any ideas?



PS. Has anyone measured the rise/pullback/width of the stock handlebar? I could do it myself, but if someone already has, then I can continue to be lazy. Plus, it keeps the discussion going and I'm learning as we go.

They are lower by 2inches, a little more forward, and 2inches wider. For me it all adds up to a great handling package. Much nicer in the twisties than the stock sit up and beg bars, IMHO.

I put a set of motocross bars (alum) and cut the ends down so they would't be to wide. they worked out good, I was hoping that they would cut some vibes from my xb12s, I also filled them with bird shot. they feel great and put me so more weight is on the front wheel. Cheep way to go.

Ive just fitted some 5 inch Renthal Trials bars,i cut 30mm off both ends.no problems with cables or wiring,dont really like the cross bar so might take it off.

Al,

I love the Crossroads that I got from you, but your post echoed my thoughts exactly. I, too was looking at the bars and wondering why they were so wide. I am also contemplating shortening them, but that'll require redrilling the locating holes, so it's a bit more than just lopping the ends off. I also dislike the down angle and was contemplating remilling the ends. I simply figured I was the only one unhappy with that angle. It puts too much strain on my wrists, and the area between the thumb and forefinger. I'd happily stand in line to try out a set of redesigned bars for the Crossroads... Hopefully enough people will chime in to get them moving.

How wide is the lower section of the bend?? I'd like to drop my front end a bit but the motoX bars I have fitted are wider at the bottom of the bend and the top of the fork is just about touching the bars now and it's set to the highest of the two fork marks...

Can you get your front triple clamp lower on your forks?? To the lower of the two marks?? Mine's at the top one now...

Here's mine with the crossroads bars. I do love the look, and it's a better feel for me than the stock bars. But I sure wish they'd offer me an alternate angle.
