So I was wondering what hoops I would have to go through to get the new fan programing into the ECM of my '06 XB12Ss, firmware version BUEIB310.

I would rather shoot myself in the leg than deal with the local dealers. Is there a way to do it through TunerPro RT or EcmSpy?

The only way I can think of is to get a copy of the new EEPROM (if it's even available for my ECM) then put my custom maps over that flash.

Any ideas?

Can't be done, the DDFI2 ECM programming does not have the capability to switch the fan off and on based on speed.

Well that sucks.

Thanks. I guess I'll just keep roasting my stuff.

Anyone know about the EBR race ECM's for an '06?

The EBR ECM will have the same fan programming as your stock one. It also isn't capable of doing the newer fan programming.

You're just full of bad news for me today! I don't think I'll be buying a lottery ticket.

Thanks for the info though.

Best bet is the comfort kit, it all bolts on except the under seat air duct, and that can be forced to fit. Also Special Ops heat blankets, or you can upgrade to a watercooled Buell : )

I thought the comfort kit was discontinued??? If not do you know the part no.? I've got the Special Ops heat blanket. It's a nice piece that works well, but is far from a perfect solution. It is part of a list of things that will help.

or you can upgrade to a watercooled Buell

The watercooled Buell I've got is substantially hotter running in the *ahem* region than the XB...

Neither of my 1125s cook my seat as much as my either of my XBs. I've actually done a few short rides in the winter on my 1125R without a seat to see if it would help keep me warm, but the increase in heat wasn't noticeable like it is during the summer without a seat. : (

I've got my liquid cooled Sprint ST that doesn't boil the peanuts. It is pretty warm on the lower legs though, even with the heat management kit.

I'm starting to think that a sub 400cc bike might be the way to go.

If you want the fan to run 'when you want it to', all you have to do is wire it to the battery like an accessory with a fuse and a toggle switch. Flip the switch to turn it on...flip the switch to turn it off.

The airflow kit helps, too

To get this feature you have a little leg work to do...

first make a ddfi3 harness converter.

put on a ddfi3 ecm.
changes flags to fit the ddfi2 bike and a few settings.

Add a map sensor while there cause it is active and an upgrade.

You can even put in a front O2 now as long as you turn that on as an active feature.

your not stuck. you just have to go outside the box...

get the harness mod file from ecmspy.com on how to make the harness adapter.

Poof you now have many new bells and whistles on a ddfi2 bike with a ddfi3 ecm active.

I think I'll just stay with the "but beads". They're cheap, easy, and already installed. Best of all they really work.

Mike, I'm pretty amazed at some of the stuff you have managed to do. Others too, like adding a turbo for example. Seems like there's always new stuff that can be learned for those who are so inclined!

I was just hoping for something easier with not much learning curve. Cool stuff though!

Mike (Xoptimizedrsx) is there a guide to do the ddfi3 convert? like what flags to change and such?

Nope not a guide on that one...

Pretty much open a ddfi2 and compare beside a ddfi3. then turn off the things the ddfi2 bike does not have. You do the compare in Tunerpro side by side... Or open the raw files in excel and do it that way... ( I prefer the excel version but many would go blind looking at it that way.)

Sifo,
why do you want the new fan programming? The reason I ask is that I have it and don't like it. I have had a fan fail before and see the extra run time while riding as unneeded. Improved scoops with the fan running after shutdown to prevent heat soak makes more sense to me (original design).

I was thinking that if I could fairly easily put together that programing for my ECM it would be worth a try, and would be easy to switch back if I didn't like it. The amount of work being described to get it done doesn't interest me in the least.

Honestly the seat beads are about the best thing I've seen to separate you from the heat. First time you feel a breeze flowing under your buns you wonder why you never did that before.
