I'm attempting to keep an XB recall database going on Yahoo's XB Group. Has anyone a good link or site that can provide all XB model recalls?

There has been only one as far as I know, related to the kickstand.

your missing one...on the early 2003 production of the xb12r, they routed the oxygen senor wire incorrectly, which caused many of them to short out...they corrected this a few months into production, but since mine was produced in sept 2003, it happened...meaning the wire grounded out and the engine light came on...

The wheel bearings were a recall? I thought it was a service bulletin. Forgot about the wire.

Wheel bearings were not a recall--at least for the 9s. I called Buell customer service directly.

Speaking of the recalls, I need to verify the used '03 9R I got has the updates. The two main mentioned recalls are bearings and kickstand. Can informed eyes tell me if I'm current or if my bike is going to tip over!

Black bearings bad Orange bearings good.
Not sure about side stand think it just goes off a manufacture date.

Coldwthrrider : If your kickstand has an "R" stamped on the baseplate you're good to go.
The orange bearings are the good ones.

As far as the semantics of "recall" and "service bulletin" go, when I asked the dealer to perform the "service bulletin" upgrade on the 9R bearings, they said "Huh?" I said "recalled bearings" and they said, "Oh yeah..."

All leave that semantics stuff to Buell's legal dept. : )

The wheel bearing upgrade was a "product program". This differs quite considerably from a recall. A product program can come about because the manufacturer has decided an upgrade would be beneficial to themselves (perhaps to avoid a potential recall), the customer, or both, and can be terminated by the manufacturer whenever they feel they have achieved their intended goals. Product programs may only be available to the original owner of the bike, or the manufacturer may choose to extend the program to any owner of the bike. The nature, range, and scope of the program is determined by the manufacturer and can be cancelled any time at their discretion.

Recalls are regulated by the NHTSA. Some recalls may be voluntary (the manufacturer knows there is a defect and is cooperating with the NHTSA), and some may be mandated by the NHTSA due to a higher than normal incidence of failure, usually connected to a significant risk of personal or property damage. Recalls are open until the work is done. They cannot be cancelled, nor can the customer be charged for the work. It doesn't matter if the vehicle has 10 owners, the recall must still be performed free of charge for the 10th owner if it hasn't been previously done.

The kickstand issue was a recall but involved a very short production run of bikes. The horn wiring problem was also a recall. The wheel bearing upgrade was a product program.

Just for reference - I have the 'old' kickstand on my bike and it's never gone over, nor am I worried that it will. In NC two years ago someone had the newer kickstand just snap while the bike was sitting still!

The early Firebolts were recalled for the belt tensioner wheel. They were smaller diameter on the first bikes.

Bolts were never realesed with the tensiner you are talking about.
That was a pre production pulley.
No one in the genral public has ever rode one with that pulley unless you have toes to the factory.

Does anyone have a copy of the recall notice for the sidestand? Mine just crapped out. The pivot bolt broke because the eye hole on the leg warped under the weight of the bike.
