I needed new brake pads so I thought I'd give it try myself. I got the brake assembly off and the old pads out, but the piston is so far extended that I can't get the new pads in. I've tried everything to push the piston back into the caliper but it won't budge. I've got a C-clamp on on it now and have clamped down as far as it will go. At this point, the handle on the c-clamp bends before the piston will move. Any ideas? I messed up when removing the brake assembly and loosened the brake line enough so that a little brake fluid came out. Could that be the cause of my problem? | ||

I would say you take it apart! probably some brake dust issues (its not that difficult to disassemble and assemble it!) put the caliper in a towel ,pop the piston out of the caliper with a airgun (careful) or use a special pliers to pull the piston Clean the whole caliper in and out with brake cleaner or something (careful with the rubber rings and stuff) And put it back together with something like Ate brake grease to make the piston slide easy in the caliper. | ||

I wouldn't even think of taking it all apart without having a rebuild kit in hand, the kit should be cheap compared to having to pull it apart again if the old seals leak. | ||
