So after many years of no buell I just picked up a 03 xb9s for $1,800 with under 14k miles. It does have a small dent in the frame and a salvage title due to that. Only other damage was a broken toe peg. I used to service this bike when I still worked at Harley so I know it was very well taken care of, 100% stock. Well was...right now I dont even know if i could call it a bike. Bunch of stuff got sent for gloss black powder coating. Sub frame (i also chopped it), pegs, heal guards, trees, fly screen sides, wheels, brake lever, shiver and linkage. Taking the frame and swing arm to possibly get line x'ed Monday. Just got the 1 1/8 bar adapters today for the CR bars. BUT....while I was taking the bike apart I noticed the 5th gear sprocket was missing the seal....then I noticed the needle bearings were blown. Only was to fix was pull it all apart and replace them. I ended up needing the bearings, main shaft and a gasket kit. Its alot of work but I know its mint inside. And f it it getting hit with some Harley texture black while its out. I still have an exhaust, ebr ecm and a seat on my wish list. Does anybody have a Baldwin seat??? OK I'm done rambling.... |

Welcome back! and ramble on! Don't know about the Baldwin seat from experience, but I've not heard anything bad about them from owners. Line-ex? are you serious? That's going to add a lot of weight. For the same(ish) look you can use wrinkle black, it'll be much lighter, cover the imperfections, and won't scrub to death anything that rubs it, like the knees of your pants. Looking forward to pics of the new ride. What a steal you got! I can ramble too |

Yeah I'm sure I'm gonna use line x I'm just going to look, talk to the guy and look at samples. I want it for more of a contrast to the gloss black more than to hide the dent. |

I just talked to a friend of mine that did damn near his whole SV650. It actually looks pretty sharp. His wasn't at all like sand paper, I asked him what gives. He said the applier can put as much or as little "sand" in the mixture as you'd like. I had no idea it was so versatile. It may just be a good direction to look into, let me know what your guy says. My main concern is weight, SV650 guy's fenders weigh a ton comparatively speaking. Looking forward to what you find out. |

I told my guy that I was worried it would be to thick and I would have to paint and tape off areas where things bolt to. He said he can put it on as thick or thin as I want. Seeing that its not going in a truck bed I dont think ill need it all that thick. So I should only need to tape off direct mounting areas |

Sad to say the CB is gone...but it went to a friend of mine who always liked it. I really liked the bike but kinda lost interest in it and I ride alot (12k a year easy) so I felt it wasn't worth my time or money.....so I traded it for a hand gun. |

Ha yeah it was a sweet deal. Would of been not so sweet if somebody got it that A: would of not noticed the blown bearing and the tranny locks up on them or B: the cost to pay somebody to fix it would of put it over the value of the bike. Oh f you and your black...I hope the yellow grows on me once the rest of the bike is all blacked out. |

Are you just trying to change color? If so, just have it painted, if you can't do it yourself. |

The bike is going to be all black other than the plastics. I was thinking coating the frame would give it a contrasting black vs. More gloss black. Our painter is stopping by the shop to pick some stuff up I'm gonna ask what deal I can get. On a positive note I just snagged a NOS race ecm for a bomb deal. |

The pictures are in no real order. I had to use my phone sorry. The bike went from STOCK (other than black rims) to how it sits now. Its still going to get a drummer and maybe a seat. But first I'm now dealing with the belt I snapped last night and needing front rotor. Ill get some better pictures out side later. |

Since the belt is gone, are you going to upgrade to the newer belt and pulleys? |

Yeah I'm working on getting a used set right now. If i cant get it shipped by Monday I'm going to do a chain drive. I can get all of those parts at cost. |

Wow. She looks great. I'd personally keep the belt (one of the reasons I like my Buell), but thats just my preference. Nice work on the frame/engine. |

Yeah I'd like to keep the belt but I dont want to spend $600 on an updated belt set up. So i have my eye on a used set. Hopefully its mine haha. I'm happy with how the paint came out. I used 3 cans ($25 each ) of Harley texture black to paint the motor and a few other parts of the bike. The frame, swing arm and some other stuff I had our painter do in a stain black as well as bondo the small dent on the left side of the frame. |

Good job on the pulley/belt score! BTW, what's with the dual probe/O2 sensor bungs on the headers? For tuning? |

There is also something about the rear master cylinder that needs clearance, suggestion is to go with the 04+ cylinder. That said I haven't done this changeover yet since my belt is still decent. When it goes I'll buy the new style belt and make the swap. |

OK I installed the o2 bungs to make it easy to check air fuel on the Dyno vs. Fishing the Sniffer up the muffler. We didn't have any bung plugs at work so i stuck in a set of o2 that came from a Harley. They are not hooked to anything. I ended up liking the way they look so i left them and didn't order any plugs. As far as the rear master cylinder goes I think its up higher or something. I read somewhere that you dont always "need" it so ill see what happens. |

I'm interested in the o2 bungs, want to have one welded into a "spare" header the make it easier to tune. |

Yeah I was going back and forth putting them in. Mostly because the head pipes looked not so good when i got the bike. I thought about wrapping them but i started sanding them and wow they looked killer with the brushed look and were cleaning up nice. But I was still worried that as I ran the bike they would start to look like crap again so thats why I put the o2s down farther. So if they do start to look like crap I can wrap the head pipes down to them. (I'm picky with how I do the wrap and I know i woulndt be happy with how it would look trying to wrap around bends and the bungs) I dont normally put parts on my bikes that dont serve a purposes but they look trick even if those o2s dont do anything. But really who's going to know unless they are into buells.... |

I probably would have plugged the o2 next to the exhaust port and just extended the wire down to the bend and used the o2 down there. |

Actually the closer to the exhaust port you can get the sensor the better for tuning. |
