HEy Guys, Just wondering ,Just about to purchase the HID kit maybe from ( DDM ) ,is there anything NEW to look out for since these first came around on the forums, Like BAllast, which wattage to use, and both High and Low. etc.? What ever ya can tell me would be appreciate??? Thinking at this time on the 35 or the 55 Watt unit in the 4300/4500 K`s Any advantage going 55 over the 35 and both H & Lows? Thanks I know this has been Mentioned a Zillion times before, and I have Searched many threads just thought I wd. post here for myself and other that may be thinking of going HID now as well?? | ||

I bought the two 35 watts a year or two ago at maybe 4500 for my 2010 xb12r, they work great. Word of advice, definitely leave in the metal beam-pattern thingies, they will keep you from blinding people and help the lights reflect better in a good driving pattern (IMO). | ||

HEy Darth, yes the H3 is the bulb type for the R models..and I wd. think not sure the 4500 or 5000 ddm is the brightest but perha[s others know better on that...Was Just wondering IF its better to get the 55 Watt units I hear they are even brighter!..? | ||

If you're using a pair of 55w it'd be wise to use a relay! | ||

The brightest will be the 6k. I went with 8k and they are still very bright with a slight blue tint. The is only about a 40% increase in light output going from 35w to 55w but there is a 300% difference going from halogen to 35w HID. | ||

My buddy who knows these helped, IIRC we used relay harness with 2 relays attached in. And yeah, the higher in color temperature you go, the less useable light your lights put out. | ||

I changed both headlights with 35 watt 8k HID. No I didn't use bi-xenon.   | ||

Thanks Terry, They look great....I guess by your diagram ,all I would have to do ,wd. be throw a toggle switch in line with the main #87 red line coming from the battery,to the relay.... If...Say I didn`t want either to fire till bike was started & warmed up good..in case of either a draw on the battery and also perhaps bad for the Ballast if the bike stalls a couple of times while starting/running.... What ya think, will that work or.... | ||

OK excuse my stupidity, but I got the DDM kits & just haven't gotten to this project yet, so no 1st hand knowledge. I've been lurking on this thread. I bought the 35W 4500K HIDs to put in both & already have the both on mod. Would extra wiring be required to add in the relays Terry just mentioned & has anyone actually tried these yet? Looking at the pic I do need 2 relays correct or maybe I don't if only my low is flipped on before starting the bike? These seem like a pretty good idea but the further away from stock I get the more I'm worried about screwing something up that wasn't screwed up before. I've never done electrical stuff ... at all. Yes it does require extra wiring. You can also buy the pre-wired relay harness. I ran the 35W kit for a couple years without relays. If you were running 55W HID then I would definitely install relays. | ||

Btw Terry one more thing, Guess IF one was just going to run one Hid in the low beam, wdn`t hurt to just go off your post and use one of them suckers (relays)...Just for added safety may or may not be needed but what the heck...Always better to lean on the side of safety,Sometimes  | ||

I just looked, I have: DDM HID Kit, 35W, H3, 5000K. I don't use relays (I figure they draw less then bulbs) and I didn't buy an adapter kit. I wired them up with crap I had around the house (duct-tape, zip-ties, and quick connects)it's only 2 wires after all. I tucked the small digital ballasts into the space between the headlights up in front of the cowl (a tight but perfect fit). I've had 'em in for almost two years with no issues. | ||

just finished the install. What a dramatic difference. It was a beast trying to fit the ballast and the ignitor behind the fairing but i got it done. Super nice light. Need to order the time delay thingy.lol I think that i need one for each of the HID bulbs right? | ||

YEah that seems nice, but damn expensive, can`t be all that too it... Have to try and research this more, talk to a few auto nuts maybe they know of a simple time relay to fab. up..Thanks for that link... Also Greg Thanks for that info... some good stuff there... | ||

The wolstentech says they are out of stock because they are made to order. It is probably just the circuit in my second post all glued into a box... FYI the second post really should have a damping diode across the relay magnet. Eventually I'll probably play with the pieces from the second post, I'm thinking a 30 second delay might be a nice option to make sure the engine is running before the lights come on. 8 seconds is barely enough to make sure fuel pressure is up and start cranking so I think 30 would be better. Not sure if that circuit can go that much longer but it might. | ||

So do all the hID lights make a "ZAP" sound at the fire up. It goes away as the HID gets to temp. Im hoping this is normal. |
